Thank you to those who responded to my inquiry re: William Bullock of Bermuda and (?VA) Most of you thought this line connected to a line of (Thomas) or of William of the Isle of Wight. I don't know. This is what I have found and it comes from some very old sketchy family records and something I found called The Tatum Narrative, 1925. These Bullocks were Quakers, and promient in early Bermuda history. Stephen Paynter was the Governor of Bermuda. There is supposed to be a book in print on the early history of Bermuda. I just can't find it. Ancestors of Mary Margaret Bullock Generation No. 1 1. Mary Margaret Bullock, born ?; died 1718-1782. She was the daughter of 2. Stephen Bullock and 3. Marie. Hello Ron, My earliest known male Bullock ancestor was Richard, who died in Surry Co., Va., in 1703. I am familar with Thomas of Isle of Wight but not much although I went to Isle of Wight researching Thomas. I As to Captain Hugh, I am confident that one would have a very hard time proving that he/she is descended from Capt. Hugh. It is undisputed that he Hugh had a son: William and that William had a son: Robert, and that Robert had one or more daughters, but I am doubtful he had a son. There are several who claim to descend from Capt. Hugh and or his "supposely" brothers but I would like to see the proof thereof. Worth Rays' book, I believe, is the culprit in many of these instances. I take it that you descend from Thomas. I would like to share Bullock info. with you. Robert A. Hello John: You wrote to the Bullock group, as follows: ------------------ Has anything been posted here on the William Bullock family of Bermuda and VA, early 1600s? There is a book out on early Bermuda families, is anyone familiar with it? -- No, I have not heard of this book, but I would like to know more about it. I am researching the Bullock family of Isle of Wight Co., VA, the earliest well- documented member of whom was William Bullock who was transported there by 1664. Thomas Bullock who died in Isle of Wight in 1709 mentions brothers named William (perhaps the one from 1664) and John in his will. Some researchers have said that this Thomas Bullock was the son of an earlier Thomas Bullock from 1640 Norfolk Co. and the grandson of old Captain Hugh Bullock, but I have not been able to verify this through my own research. The early Bullock family in Isle of Wight had connections to families there named Bozeman, Branch, and Hearn. I have heard that some of these families came to the Virginia Colony by way of Bermuda. If you happen to have access to this book on early Bermudas families, John, would you please be so kind as to check and see if any of the names above might be found there? My best regards, Ron Bullock

Hi, I am on a genealogy trip rooting around eastern IA for some clues on my Bullock family. I still haven't found much but I have located some information on a Reuben Bullock in the same town that my family was in. There is probably a connection, but unsure what it is. My family was headed by Lewis who had a daughter Phebe Emmaline (Emma). Emma was born in WI around 1850. I traced this Reuben in the census back to Rock Co., WI (I think it is the same one) . I saw a posting for some Bullock's in Rock Co., WI and am hoping that you may have some information on Reuben or on any of that family that may have moved to IA? Happy Hunting, Anita
Anita: I am at least one of the persons with lots of Bullock roots in Rock County, Wisconsin. However, none of them are named Lewis Bullock. Coincidentally, one of my GGGMs was named Emma Jane Bullock [Bartlett], born in Rock County, Wisconsin, in 1850, but her parents were Ebenezer Bartlett and Thankful Janes (of the Janes family for whom Janesville, the County seat of Rock County, was named). You mentioned going to eastern Iowa; one of my other genealogical hot spots is Fayette County (West Union) in NE Iowa. So I have info about there too. Please let me know if I can be of any help.
