    1. Re: [BULLOCK-L] Bullock
    2. Hi Janice: I am interested in the Bullock families found in MS before 1860, and I find a mention of your Berry Bullock in my records where he married Ann E. Swain on 4 Nov. 1847 in Noxubee Co. I am assuming that the Ann E. Bullock listed as the head of a houshold in 1860 Holmes Co., MS, might be Ann E. Swain Bullock, so it would appear that William B. Bullock might have died even before the Civil War started in 1861. If your William B. Bullock lived in NC at one time, I would be a little surprised if he descends from the James S. Bullock and Jean Stobo/Stebo whom you mention. This family from SC and GA was of Scottish descent, I believe, and usually spelled their name as Bulloch. The mother of Theodore Roosevelt belonged to this family, and I have never heard that any members of this Scottish family were in NC. Most of the Bullock families of NC had ancestors who came from England a generation or so earlier than when the Bullochs first came to SC and moved to GA shortly before the American Revolution. Have you ever heard of a specific area in NC where William B. Bullock was said to have lived? Good luck in your research, Ron Bullock ([email protected]) Subj: [BULLOCK-L] Bullock Date: Sat, Jul 18, 1998 7:37 PM EDT From: [email protected] X-From: [email protected] (Janice Cheatham) Reply-to: [email protected] To: [email protected] -- [Dial-In Configuration] SiteName=SWBell Registration Server Description=SWBell Registration Server Name=guest1 Password=cVJoRDB1M2EwJE1yc15wYWpjdCNq Phone=+1 (888)212-5410 [IPX] Enabled=No [IP] Enabled=Yes IPAddress=0.0.0.0 DNSAddress=151.164.1.1 DNSAddress2=151.164.1.7 [NetBEUI] Enabled=No [Security] SecurityDevice=No [Windows] Main=0,0 Searching for information on my Bullock ancestors I belive I am from the James Steven Bullock and Jean Stobo family. 3. I don't have any sources to support the people beyond Richard. This was given me years ago by a cousin, and I think it was 2nd hand info for her. It sounds like you've looked into this line, so I would definitely trust your opinion more. And thank you for your input. I'm trying to be more careful about sources than I was when I started this, and I hate to see branches like this where I don't have supporting evidence. I'd be very interested to hear what sources you have on Robert that indicate only daughters. I also don't know Worth Ray's book. Can you give me bibliographic info for that? bc > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: Friday, July 17, 1998 3:22 PM > To: [email protected] > Cc: Bruce Clift > Subject: Re: [BULLOCK-L] Cap.Hugh Bullock's descendants. > > > Bruce, you said: > "Richard's father: Robert > Robert's parents: William Bullock and Anne Taylor > William's parents: Capt. 2. Bruce, you said: "Richard's father: Robert Robert's parents: William Bullock and Anne Taylor William's parents: Capt. Hugh Bullock and Mary". It is well accepted that the last two lines are true. However, I would very much appreciate authority for the first line. Of course, there is Worth Ray's book which is a good spring board. 3. This is what I have---let me know is its really of value to you. March Term 1844 (Equity Minute Dockett) Frederick J. Carter & wife vs Thomas T. Bullock & other. The clerk & master filed his report of the resurvey of the tract of land purchased by James R. Patterson, made by the County in pursurance of an order of the last Court showing that the said tract was 57 acres short of the quantity it was estimated at when purchased by said Patterson, and thereupon the Court directed the Clerk & Master to enter a credit of $85.50 on said Patterson's bond for the said 57 acres at $1.51 acre at which price it was paid off by him. The Clerk & Master is allowed for his services, as commissions in making the sale of the land heretofore reported, Fifty dollars. Sept Term 1844 (Equity Minute Dockett) Frederick J. Carter & wife & others vs Thomas T. Bullock & others. On motion it is ordered that the Clerk & Master cause the two tracts of land purchased by Andrew Veazy, and Zachariah Lyon at the sale of lands belonging to the estate of Richard Bullock, dec'd, by virtus of an order of September Term 1842, to be resurveyed by the County Surveyor, and make report therof at the next term of this Court. Court Minutes Thursday 9 May 1844 On motion Simson Aspurchases (I can not make this name out) is appointed Guardian to Minerva, John, Robert, Ruffin and Mildred Bullock, orphans of Richard Bullock, deceased who enters unto bond for $10000 with James Parham, Zake Paschall, Daniel A. Paschall ____, Wm. A. Johnson, John J. Barnwell (?) and Jonathan, one term justices on the Bench for _______. Court Minutes Monday 5 Aug. 1844 A Power of Attorney from Wm Bullock to John W. Carr being exibited in open Court & the same appearing to have been from and certified according to law in the state of Tennessee on motion to order that the same be registered. Court Minutes August Court 1845 Sat. A certified copy of the appointment of William F. Russell as Guardian of John W. Bullock & Robert Bullock of Marion County, Floridia being ____ ___ to the Court and the same appearing to have been done accordin to law, it is order that the said paper be filed. Feb. Ct. 1845 Tuesday 4 A pairr of ATTO from Thomas Bullock to E. H. MacLean being exhibited in open Court other same appearing to have been duly proved & certified in the State of Tennessee on motion, orderd that the said Pairr of Attorney be admitted to registration. Court Minutes Sat 1 Nov. 1841 F. J. Carter & wife & others vs Wm Rupell & wife & Others In the case it appears that the Defendants Baxter McLean & wife, Thomas Bullock, Monroe, Emma Bullock, William Bullock are non residents & it is therefore ordered that publication in due form be made as to them for six weeks in the Oxford Mercury. it is also ordered that the Clerk of this Court be appointed Guardian Judents (can't read this word) for the infant defandants Minerva, Jno W., Robert M. Mildred & Ruffin Bullock. Equity Dockett, Sept Term, 1841 Frederick J. Carter & Wife & Others vs Thomas T. Bullock & Others. In this case it appearing from the petition that the Defendants Thomas T. Bullock, Baxter McLean & Ann his wife, Monroe Bullock, Emma Bullock and William Bullock reside without the limits of this state, and affidavit thereof having been made by William Rupell, (the way this is written it could easily be, and I believe its William Russell) one of the petitioners, before the Clerk & Master according to act of Assembly in such case made & aproved. It is therefore ordered that publication be made in the Oxford Mercury for six days successive weeks for the said Defendiants to appear at the next term of this court to be held at the Court House in the Town of Oxford on the first Monday of March next and plead, answer or d_____ to the said petition otherwise the same will be taken proconfesso and heard esparte. Feb. Court 1849 County Court Minutes On motion, John W. Carr is appointed administrator of Thomas Bullock, deceased, who enters into bond for $300 with James A. Russell, securities and duly qualifies as such. May Court 1849 (County Court Minutes) John Carr adm. of Thomas Bullock, deceased retuns an Inventory which is ordered to be recorded. Failed to write the date down on this one-LIbrary Staff warned about closing. County Court Minutes 1848-1852 A Power of Attorney from Frances Bullock Administrator of Thomas T. Bullock, Dec'd of the State of Texas to John Bullock is exhibited in open Court by the said John Bullock and the same appearing to the satisfaction of the Court to be in due form of law, an motion the said Power of Attorney & the acompanying Certificates are ordered to be registered. Whew---will stop here---most of others are about the same as above. The Oxford Mercury was not saved----only a very few scattered dates. I had look to see it there happened to be a paper with the Murder Story in it--no paper. I think this proves that Thomas Bullock did have a "T" in his name and that his wife was Frances, also proves most of the 14 children names in above. Minerva (from Capon, Fla.) married Durrell Tilley at the home of her sister Elizabeth Bullock Carr at 9am---infor from the Death and Marriages found in the Hillsborough Recorder---also in the Granville Co Marriage Book it has Frederick J. Carter and Lucy Bullock 1836. (as well as Elizabeth Bullock and John Wesley Carr). The Hillsborough Recorder has the death notice of Amelia Bullock, wife of Richard Bullock, and 14 children. Will have to go back to copier and make you a set if you want---remember these will not be all that good---as the original was made from poor film. Some of the film has dark areas--but have to take what you can get, uh? (It will have to be next week before I can get to copier again--busy here at home). If you want above, I will need your address.
