Hi Ron, My theory is that John, William, Edward and possible Soloman Bullock are brothers. But then again, yours sounds and looks better. I am not sure where I got the dates for John's birth, but I will check again. The more I think about it, I believe you are right. Are any of these Bullocks kin to you? If so, I have a lot of information on their descendents. Except Soloman Bullock. Gotta get to work, Thanks. Hi Phyllis: Yes, I see your John M. Bullock in my data base in 1850 and 1860 Tippah Co, MS, but I don't have any information as to his earlier family origins. Do you happen to know his father's name and from what county in TN he came? I also see a William Bullock (b. 1802 in NC) in Tippah county, who moved into MS from TN sometime between 1834 and 1844, and I wonder if he could be the older brother or father of John M. Bullock. I believe that it was a mistype when you said that John was born in 1804, as he was listed as only 30 in the 1850 census, giving a birthyear of about 1820 The only additional information that I have on this family is that the eldest son James V. Bullock married Anna Bounds on 1 Oct 1858 in Tippah Co. By the way, it could be a mistake in my copying, but I have it listed that both John M. and Elizabeth Bullock were said to have been born in NC in the 1860 census, not TN as was reported in 1850. just received your message that is on roote-web. I think your Bullocks were some of the first settlers of the Carolinas. Mine came into Canada and there James joines the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was in Ill and then Utah. One brother joined him in joining the LDS church and went with him to Utah. The others in the family we haven't much info on. But I know there was some who settled one of the Carolina states as it was his resposibility to send back to his original country the names and discription of the flora and fauna. Some where I have a copy of that pamphlet. Just too busy doing other branches, so can't say where it is at this time. Good luck. My Bullocks have been in North Mississippi since the middle of the 1850's. I am having a lot of trouble finding anyone who is kin to them. Maybe someone out there can help. Sorry, my Bullocks came into Canada, and there joined the Latter Day Saints church (Mormon) went to Ill, then some to Iowa, and some on to Utah. I do know there were some Bullocks that were in the Carolina's and have seen reference to them some place on the genealogy cites on the Net. Good luck. I received the following from another mailing list. It sounds interesting. Has anyone any experience on the following? "In the most recent issue of the Carolina Herald and Newsletter, the publication of the SC Genealogical Society, was this note: Clues from the Names of Deed Witnesses The following is from a Minnesota Genealogical Newsletter. "In the lower left corner of most old deeds you will find (the signatures of ) two to four witnesses. The first one is always from the husband's side, the next two from the wife's side. That is to protect her one-half dower rights under the law - Nothing you will ever use will give greater clues to maiden names."...." Hope it helps someone! Linda

For folks who wish to give copies of heirloom photographs to historical societies, here are two quick & easy methods: 1. Hummels Office Supply in Herkimer has a photocoping machine which makes color copies. Folks use it to copy fliers, office presentations or (in my case) photographs -- black & white or color. An 8 x 10 copy (or enlargement) only cost $1. (The copy is made on regular paper) When the copy is put inside a picture frame, one can't tell the difference unless one is inches from the picture. I guess most office supply stores have this type of copier these days. 2. The Super K-Mart in Kingston, NY, & I guess most photography shops, has a computer scanner. This machine can copy a photograph (same size or enlarge upto 8 x 10) onto actual photography paper. This cost about $8 for an 8 x 10 copy. The main draw for this option is this type of copy takes a better picture than the copy made on everyday paper. As a result; on has the original photo- graph, the $8 photopaper copy, the 35 mm photograph of a photograph, & most importantly a negative of an heirloom picture. (I imagine scanners for home computers can do the same job as a scanner at a photography shop.) As for unlabeled pictures, I have some of those too. A kind person from one of the lists referred me to a person who should be able to help me with one of my lines. Should this prove fruitful, I plan to use method #1 to copy the photos & ask if this person might be able to identify any of them. (This person & I share a line, if not a common ancestor, & he might have labeled photographs of the same people.) It's definately a long shot, but it's one worth taking. Hello, Robert Do wish you could shed some light on a family who married into the Bullocks in Robeson County NC. The family is that of Thomas DAVIS who died in Robeson in 1813. As many as three of his sons and daughters married children of Charles Bullock. Charles Bullock was born in Sussex Co VA in 1740 and died in Robeson Co NC in 1823. His children were: Winifred, Richard, Amy, Henry, Betsy (m. a Davis), Nancy, Lemuel (m. Davis granddaughter), Martha, Johnston (m. a Davis), Charles, and Joel (m. a Davis). All of the Davis' that I know of moved to Ala and Ms along with the Bullocks in the 1820s-1830s so that I have been unable to find out much about where the Davis' originated. If, in your research of the Bullock family, you have come across such names as Zabon/Zaborn Davis or Thomas Davis, would you let me know where you saw them?
