    1. Re: Re: [BULLOCK-L] RE: David Bullock - d. 1774 Edgefield Co., NC
    2. Hi, Fay, it's Ron again. I had thought that you might have made a mistype in writing Edgefield Co as the place in which David Bullock's will was filed in 1774, when you meant Edgecombe. I am not certain about that, but after rereading my reply I do know for certain that I typed 1741 for the birthdate of the Richard Bullock, whom I have been told was the grandfather of David, instead of the correct year of 1641. These typos are pesky little devils, aren't they? My apologies to all, Ron

David married Elizabeth Hood. Who were her parents? <[email protected] ...Fay --------------------------- Fay, did you make a mistake here of typing Edgefield instead of Edgecombe? I have a record of the will made by David Bullock in Edgecombe Co., NC, in 1774. He must be the David whom you mention as being married to Elizabeth Hood, because he had a son named Robert Hood Bullock. I have not verified the information for myself, but I have been told that the parents of this David Bullock were Edward Bullock and his wife Sarah, with the parents of Edward being Richard Bullock and his wife Dorothy. Richard Bullock was said to have been born about 1741 in York Co., VA. and his son Edward was born 1665/1670 in New Kent Co., VA, and died 1735/39 in Hanover Co., VA. I have been trying to figure out the origin of a John Bullock who made his will in Edgefield Co., SC, in 1799. When I saw your posting mentioning Edgefield Co., I thought that perhaps the David whom you mentioned could be the father of John. However, that seems unlikely unless David Bullock's will was filed in both Edgecombe and Edgefield Counties. I don't have any information on the parents of Elizabeth Hood, but I wouldn't be surprised if her father's name was Robert Hood for whom her son was named. My best regards, Ron

    1. Re: [BULLOCK-L] Richard BULLOCK
    2. Shannon Daley
    3. I have a copy of a book written in the 1960s by Norman Leonard DALBY, "DALBY Family History." Len had been an attorney and a judge, and was very thorough in his documentation. The "Founding Mother" of my line of DALBYs was Nancy Ann BULLOCK DALBY, so the BULLOCK family figures prominantly in the book. I have looked at many of the BULLOCK family web pages and have not seen any reference to this information, but have seen much about Granville Co NC and Bedford Co, TN, both of which are counties where my Bullock/Dalbys resided. I feel like this is relevant information that may not have been tapped by BULLOCK researchers. Note that I am quoting from the book. These ARE NOT my words. begin: As in the case of the Dalby family, members of several branches of the BULLOCK family came from England to various parts of Colonial Virginia during the 17th century. The earliest of my BULLOCK ancestors with whom I can establish a direct line of descent is Richard BULLOCK (hereinafter called Richard, Sr.) who resided in York and New Kent Counties, Virginia, at least as early as 1662. There is some strong indication that his father was also named Richard, but since there are records of several Richard BULLOCKs in various counties of Colonial Virginia, there is a variance of opinion as to who his father actually was. I have not been able to find records from which I can satisfactorily identify his parents, and due to the limitations of time, I will have to leave the persuit of that matter to the younger members of the family. Richard BULLOCK, Sr., was born about 1641, and though there are some who believe that he was born in England, I believe the indications are stronger that he was born in York County, Virginia. At least, he was living in York County on August 25, 1662, for he testified as a witness in a paternity suit in a court in York County on that date, giving his age as 21 years. (York County Deeds, Orders & Wills, 1657-62, Virginia State Library). A Dorothy BULLOCK also testified as a witness in the same suit on the same day, and it seems likely, though not proven, that she was the wife of Richard, Sr. It appears the Richard, Sr., was living in New Kent County, Virginia, between 1668-69, and it has been reported that he died in New Kent County in 1702. He had three children: Richard, JR., who appears to have been the father of "Richard of Granville"; Edward, of whom I am a direct descendant, and who I will hereinafter refer to as Edward BULLOCK, Sr.; and James. In connection with the above, I cite the following references: Book 6, page 161, Virginia Land Office, Virginia State Library, Richmond, Virginia; Vestry Book & Register of St. Peter's Parish, New Kent & James Citty Counties, Virginia, 1684-1786, by C. G. Chamberlayne, The Library Board, Richmond (1937); Colonial Granville County, by Worth S. Ray (1945). It is indicated here that Edward BULLOCK, Sr., son of Richard, Sr., was born between 1665-1670, probably in New Kent County. He lived in New Kent County until at least 1704, and later resided in Hanover County, Virginia, where he died between 1735-1739. He was married about 1690, and his wife's name was Sarah. they had the following children: John; David; Dorothy; Richard; Edward, of whom I am a direct descendant, and of whom I will hereafter refer to as Edward BULLOCK, Jr.; and probably one other child. In connection with the above, I cite the following references: Register of St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, Virginia, by Chamberlayne (1937); Vestry Book of St. Paul's Parish for Hanover County, Virginia, 1706-1786, Chamberlayne (1940); Quit Rents of Virginia, 1704, by A. L. W. Smith (1957); English Duplicates of Lost Virginia Records, Cognets (1958); Plantes of Colonial Virginia, by J. T. Wertonberger (1922); Virginia Magazine, Vol. 3, page 215, 1923. My discussion and citations concerning the first two generations, above, have been rather limited due to the apparent lack of time I have in which to finish this writing. However, I am a direct descendant of two of the children of Edward BULLOCK, Jr., and there are certain matters of information concerning him and his children that are important in dealing with later generations. therefore, it will be necessary that I treat the succeeding generations in much more detail. end. That was 1 1/2 pages of the book. It continues with 20 more pages of information on Edward BULLOCK, Jr., his son Micahjah BULLOCK and daughter Christean (Christian) BULLOCK, and Micajah's children, focusing on his daughter Nancy Ann BULLOCK m. Knight DALBY. Ann and Knight DALBY resided in Granville Co, NC, then moved to Bedford Co, TN with several family memebers. Knight died in Bedford Co, and Ann took several family memebers to the Republic of Texas in 1939. I hope someone can use this inforamtion to fill in some gaps of find relationships between lines. I can provide the rest of the BULLOCK information if requested to do so. Shannon [email protected]

    1. Re: [BULLOCK-L] JOHN BULLOCK
    2. Hello Ann: I am interested in your posting regarding John Bullock of GA and TX, who married in Troup Co., GA, in 1841 and had a son named Cordy C. Bullock. I see that the 1840 census of Troup Co., GA, included families headed by: Shadrach, Mary, and Cordy Bullock. One would think that this earlier Cordy Bullock must undoubtedly have been related to your John Bullock, for whom his son might have been named. Do you know if John was a brother to Cordy of 1840 Troup Co., and do you know where the family of John Bullock lived before coming to GA? There was a Shadrack Bullock and a Hardy Bullock on the tax rolls of Oglethorpe Co., GA, in 1805, and this might have been the same Shadrack who was present with Cordy Bullock in Troup Co. in 1840. Making it all the more likely that these folks are all connected to your family is your mention that another son of John Bullock was named James Hardy Bullock, who might have been named for the Hardy Bullock in the same area as Shadrack Bullock in 1805. I have an idea about the possible earlier origin of these families, if you do not have that information, but it would be helpful if you could supply all of the full names of the grandchildren of John Bullock that you know about, as given names can be wonderful clues. Also do you know what the C. stood for in the name of Cordy C. Bullock? You are likely to find several good clues in GA leading you to earlier ancestors, so good luck in your research, Ron
