Hello Antoinette, There are a large variety of tests on the market, the aim of most is to do exactly what you want - tell you about your genetic origins. You can choose to use the information to search for marching individuals in a database, but you don't have to do this. You can just do it to learn about your own deep ancestry, if you prefer. FamilytreeDNA is a reputable company offering a wide range of tests for people to uncover their genetic origins. Do browse their website to learn more about what they offer. http://www.familytreedna.com/products.aspx Another test that looks interesting and which I am personally in the process of having done, is the Genographic Project's new Geno 2.0 test. It examines nearly 150,000 DNA markers and claims to provide unprecedented ancestry-relevant information. See https://genographic.nationalgeographic.com/about/ I hope this has helped!
