ON THIS DAY:-1910:- Royal Air Force pilot Roger Joyce BUSHELL is born in Springs. The squadron, leader of 601 squadron, BUSHELL is shot down and crash lands on German-occupied territory in 1940. Captured, he is sent to the Dulag Luft transit camp as a prisinor of war. He tries to escape from the POW camps three times. On his second attempt, he manages to elude the authorities for eight months. After his third attempt, in 1943, BUSHELL is shot dead following the Great Escape. 1963:- Hotline communication link between the Pentagon in Washington, DC, and the Kremlin in Moscow is installed.
