HICKOK was later acquitted after it was found he acted in self defense. 1887:- Rudolph Ludewyk "Okey" LEWIS is born in Pretoria. He becomes South Africa's second world-class athlete after Laurens S MEINTJIES, and represents South Africa at the 1912 Olympics, in Stockholm, Sweden. Despite competing against more experienced road riders, LEWIS wins gold in the individual 320km cycle race before competing professionally Germany in 1913 -1014.
