Charl Blignaut, lektor in Geskiedenis se onderwerp van bespreking het die indruwekkende titel “DIE WESENSAARD VAN DIE OSSEWA-BRANDWAG (OB) EN DIE BELANG VAN DIE OB-VERSAMELING AS ERFENISSKAT VAN POTCHEFSTROOM” en ‘n kort opsomming van die inhoud lui as volg: ”Die Ossewa-Brandwag was 'n reuse Afrikanerbeweging wat bestaan het tussen 1938 tot 1954. Dit was die vernaamste organisasie wat gedurende die vroeë 1940's protes aangeteken het teen Suid-Afrika se deelname aan die Tweede Wêreldoorlog. Meegesleur deur die ideologiese tendense van die dag was die OB beide Nasionaal-Sosialisties en Calvinisties van aard. As 'n massabeweging het die OB op kulturele vlak 'n tuiste vir die meer radikaal-nasionalistiese Afrikaner gebied,en ook by wyse van hulle Stormjaer-vleuel die geleentheid gegee om selfs op geweldadige wyse te verset teen Smuts se oorlogspoging. Laasgenoemde het daartoe gelei dat verskeie OB-lede geïnterneer is, waaronder baie Potchefstromers getel het. Die destydse Potchefstroomse intelligentsia was baie betrokke by die OB en het 'n belangrike beleidmakende rol in die beweging gespeel. Vandag huisves die Potchefstroomkampus van die NWU die OB-museum en die OB-argief wat van onskatbare waarde is vir die erfenis van beide Suid-Afrika in geheel en Potchefstroom in besonder. Na dekades is dit tyd dat die publiek blootgestel word aan die OB en selfs begin werk in die rigting van toegang tot die OB-museum -- 'n museum wat vir baie jare agter toe deure gestaan het” Die spreker is ‘n lektor in geskiedenis verbonde aan die Vakgroep Geskiedenis en Antieke Kultuur van die Potchefstroomkampus van die Noordwes-Universiteit (NWU). Hy het sy historiese opleiding ontvang vanaf die NWU en die Universiteit van Pretoria en is ook gekwalifiseer in Erfenis en Museumkunde. Hy het onlangs sy MA-studie aan die NWU voltooi waaruit sy verhandeling, Volksmoeders in die kollig: ʼn Histories-teoretiese verkenning van die rol van vroue in die Ossewa-Brandwag, 1938-1954, voortgespruit het. Sy navorsing fokus op die geskiedenis van Afrikanervroue en vroue-, feministiese- en gendergeskiedenis oor die algemeen. Hy stel veral belang in die rol van gender in Afrikanernasionalisme en hoe dit ons verstaan van Suid-Afrikaanse geskiedenis beïnvloed. Blignaut is ook ʼn spesialis van die geskiedenis van die Ossewa-Brandwag – nie net vanuit ʼn genderperspektief nie.Hy is tans besig met sy doktorale studie aan die Universiteit van Duisburg-Essen (Duitsland) wat neerkom op ʼn transnasionale vergelykende geskiedenis van Duitse- en Afrikanervroue gedurende die twintiger en dertigerjare van die vorige eeu. _____

Hy is op 27.1.1942 in Somerset-Oos gebore, enigste kind van Hans Jurie Klopper (b8c7d5e6f7) en Rachel Catharina Wagner. Hy was voor sy aftrede Professor in Interne & Kerngeneeskunde by Stellenbosch Universiteit.
