Waarvan ek seker is m.b.t. Jacob (1745) is dat hy die Jacob Erasmus is wat op 17 Desember 1776 ʼn lisensie vir die leningplaas “de Buffelsdrift gel: aan de Groote Vis Rivier agter de Bruinjtes hoogte ontvang het [i]<file:///D:/A%20PERSOONLIK/A%20KOOS%20BEKKER/0%20ERASMUS%20BOEK/0.%20ERASMUS%20BOEK/ERASMUS%20BOEK%208.docx#_edn1>.” Die plaas lê naby die sameloop van die Groot- en Klein Visriviere. Opperman) in sy verslae reeds bitterlik gekla oor ʼn Jacob Erasmus wat aan die Grootvisrivier gewoon het en aan die verbode ruilhandel met met die Kosas deelgeneem het. By tye het hierdie Jacob Erasmus saam met Frans Kruger onder die Kosas gewoon. Dit wil amper voorkom of die gearresteerde Jacob Erasmus ʼn ongedoopte seun van hierdie Jacob Erasmus sr kon gewees het. That not long since, his master being at Cape Town, while the burger Hendrik Hatting had charge of the farm – and who, as well as Frans Krieger, and the greater part of the inhabitants residing in that quarter, bartered with the Kafirs – the heemraad J.B. Hoffmann, and other Dutch people came there. That Hatting rising in the night, desired appearer to drive out all the Kafir cattle, and to remain with them in the field until those gentlemen had gone away. That next morning some persons, among whom was the Bastard Hottentot Adam, who had gone out to kill sea cows, asked him if he had Kafir catlle in the herd; on which he answered, yes; when they desired him to take the cattle home, which he did; Hatting then told him to drive out the Kafir cattle, and the said Mr. Hoffman desired them to proceed to Swellendam with the Kafir cattle, which he also did. The appearer lastly states, that among the cattle brought hither, there are two which Hatting had bartered from the Kafirs, some which the servant of Erasmus, named Jan Muller, had bartered and four besides which Erasmus had purchased for the appearer[iii] <#_edn3>” Nog 'n ander Jacob Erasmus wat in daardie tyd moontlik op die Oosgrens was is Jacob (1737) s.v. Jaco Erasmus (geb. ca 1709) en Hester Pienaar. Nog 'n aanduiding dat die man wat betrokke was by die onwettige veehandel Jacob (1745) was, is die feit hy op ? gevra het om vrygestel te word van die betaling van die weilisensie gelde vir Buffeldrift omdat hy die plaas die afgelope jaar nie gebruik het nie. Ruyter se verklaring voor waarskynlik die Landdros van Swellendam was op 18 Januarie 1778 en dit is dus moontlik dat Jacob (1745) daarna aangespreek is oor sy onwettige veehandel en toe besluit het - of dalk selfs opdrag gekry het - om Buffelsdrift wat op die grens gelee was te verlaat. Hy trek ook in 1780 terug na Vrolikheid by die Karoo se kant van die ingang tot Meiringspoort. Dit kan egter ook verband hou met die uitbreek van die Eerste Grensoorloog in 1779. Daar sou in die 99 jaar tot 1878 uiteindelik 'n totaal van 9 Grensoorloee wees - met die sesde een van 1834-1835 wat een van die hoofredes sou wees waarom drie van Jacob (1745) se kleinseuns besluit het om aan die Groot Trek deel te neem. Goeie middag, Ek het onlangs op 'n baie interessante artikel afgekom oor 'n voorsaat, Petrus Gerhardus Jacobus PIENAAR, wat in 1964 in die koerant "Die Noord Transvaler" verskyn het. In die artikel word 'n koerantuitknipsel, wat blykbaar in 1911 in 'n onbekende koerant verskyn het, aangehaal. Die volgende het my geinteresseer: “Onlangs, op die 11e Mei is o’erlede in die ouderdom van 92 jaar, Petrus Gerhardus Jacobus Pienaar, die eerste Maart 1819 gebore werd op die plaas Vogelvlei, distrik Mosselbaai, Kaap Provinsie. Wanneer sijn geslag naar Suid-Afrika gekom het, weet ons nie, alleen staat vas, dat sijn groot vader nog als generaal onder Napoleon deel geneem het aan die slag by Waterloo." Vandag weet ons dat die Pienaars Franse Hugenote was maar ek wonder tog waar so 'n storie vandaan sou kom? Sou daar Suid-Afrikaners onder Napoleon gaan veg het? Ter interessantheid, die berig lei verder dat Pienaar reeds in 1842 op 'n jagtog in die omgewing van Pretoria was en dat die Pienaarsrivier (sowat 50 km Noord van Pretoria) na hom vernoem is nadat hy daar sy eerste olifant geskiet het."Die tande het hulle uitgekap en die een het geweeg 100 pond en die tweede een, waarvan die punt af was, 95 pond…” Groete, Scott Kotze
