Die plaas moet min-of-meer by die oorsprong lê van die Melkrivier. Op die 1:250 000 Topokadastrale kaart vir Graaff-Reinet word 'n opstal met die naam Apieskloof daar aangedui. Vandag binne-in die Samar Game Reserve. In 1775 kry hy dan die plaas Elandskloof langs die Melkrivier (daar word nie op bostaande kaart so plaas aangedui nie) en in 1777 kry hy dan Buffelsrivier langs die Groot Visrivier. In die tyd van die Eerste Oosgrensoorlog trek hy terug Kaap se kant toe tot op die plaas Vrolikheid wat gelee is waar Meiringspoort aan die Karoo se kant "uitmond" Met die afsterwe van sy ma Martha Pienaar in ca 1796 is hy weer in Agter Bruintjieshoogte. Sy seun Lourens Jacobus (1774) sou hom dan later op Doornkraal tussen Somerset-Oos en Pearston vestig.
