Die opsomming van die inhoud volg verderaan. WOOD, Elmien. 'n Genealogiese analise van 'n enkele familie as verteenwoordiging van 'n kultuurgroep: 'n Ondersoek na nuwe perspektiewe. Genealogie word dikwels deur leke as 'n stokperdjie beskou, maar in werklikheid is dit 'n uiters komplekse dissipline wat 'n sinergie van verskillende navorsingsmetodes verg. Die navorsingsmetodologie wat vir hierdie studie gevolg is, het inderdaad nuwe perspektiewe op genealogie tot gevolg gehad. Indringende ondersoeke na huweliks- en ander verbintenisse in die 18de-eeuse samelewing aan die Kaap het gelei tot die ontdekking en blootlegging van tot nog toe onbekende feite oor sosiale verskynsels van die tyd. Faktore wat bydra tot die vorming van 'n nuwe samelewing in 'n koloniale gebied en wat voorheen nog nie diepgaande ondersoek is nie is in hierdie studie verreken. Promotor: Prof M Burden.
