Volgens een van my bronne het hy ongeveer 12H00 op Donderdag 13 Maart 1902 in Klerksdorp arriveer. As 'n dag-en-'n-half te min was vir so 'n rit, moet ek my spekulasie met wanneer die rit begin het heroorweeg. Generaal de la Rey het wel al op Dinsdag 11 Maart 1902 vir Methuen 'n brief gegee waarin hy noem dat hy vry is om na Klerksdorp te vertrek. Ek beskik egter ook oor 'n pas gedateer 12 Maart 1902 waarin o.a. versoek word dat Thomas Leask (susterskind van De la Rey) gehelp moet word om Methuen in Klerksdorp te besorg. Dit is egter nog steeds moontlik dat die rit reeds op 11 Maart 1902 in aanvang geneem het, omdat GA van der Walt in sy boek *Methuen uitoorlê deur Generaal de la Rey* die volgende opmerking maak: "Maar deur die oponthoud en die noodsaak om stadig te ry, was Lord Methuen bang, dat die tyd op die vry-pas, wat hy van Genl. de la Rey gekry het, te gou verstryk sou wees, om in Klerksdorp te kom. Hy stuur Tom Leask om 'n tweede pas, uit voorsorg, omdat hy anders langs die pad weer moeite sou kan kry." Ek aanvaar dat ek 'n afskrif van die tweede pas het. Leask en Methuen kon dus al 11 Maart 1902 (die dag waarop De la Rey vir hom skriftelik laat weet het, hy is vry om na Klerksdorp te vertrek + naas die brief ook 'n pas gegee het) vanaf Gestoptefontein vertrek het. Methuen besef op 12 Maart dat hulle dalk nie vinnig genoeg in Klerksdorp gaan arriveer nie en vra vir Leask om terug te gaan na De la Rey en vir nog 'n pas te vra. Ek vermeld hierdie inligting omdat dit van genealogiese belang kan wees en in die hoop dat lesers verdure leidrade sal verskaf. “This is a final effort to locate any surviving next-of-kin of the four members of the SAAF who perished in a flying accident against Mount Kenya on 23/07/1942. They were undergoing flying training when their aircraft, a Blenheim bomber, did not return from a cross-country navigational flying exercise. The wreck of the aircraft, and their mortal remains, were only discovered in 2002 and positively identified in 2003. Their remains could not be removed from the crash site at that stage as it first had to be attempted to establish contact with any remaining next-of-kin to confirm their personal wishes in this regard. Despite all efforts, the search for such next-of-kin has, with one exception, been unsuccessful. The four victims were Lt Charles Herbert Allen of Johannesburg, 2Lt Hendrik Jacobus Petrus (Bokkie) Lemmer , of whom one next-of-kin has been located, Air Sgt Simon Eliastam of Johannesburg and Air Sgt Lloyd Murray of Kimberley. Lt Allen het ten tye van sy vader se dood nog een broer gehad, nl Reginald Allen en drie susters, te wete Nora Lilian McKechnie, Eileen Quail en Katharine Lawton. Pogings om hierdie persone of hul nasate op te spoor, was tot dusver onsuksesvol. Genl maj Opperman het ook ‘n foto aan my verskaf van ‘n gemeenskaplike grafsteen wat besonderhede aangaande die Allen-familie bevat. Die boonste naam op die grafsteen is dié van Nora Victoria (24.5.1903 – 10.3.1904), gevolg deur Erwin Thomas (7.1.1908 – 11.2.1909). Naas hierdie twee vroeggestorwe kinders volg lt Frederick Mosley Allen (2.9.1911 – 11.9.1941) en lt Charles Herbert (21.4.1915 – 23.7.1942). Laasgenoemde is die lugmagoffisier wat saam met sy drie makkers in die Blenheim-ongeluk gesneuwel het. Hierna volg die name van sy ouers wat onderskeidelik in 1962 en 1965 oorlede is.

Hulle het vier kinders op die Oos-grens gedoop. Haar man is waarskynlik vroeg oorlede waarna sy op 23 jarige ouderdom, op 27-12-1812 op Graaff-Reinet trou (xx) sy met Jacob Abraham ERASMUS. Hulle het SES kinders op Graaff-Reinet en Cradock gedoop. Die jongste baba is op 23-12-1827 gedoop. Magteld is daarna, op Somerset-Oos op 9-12-1831, 'n derde keer getroud. Die keer met Jan Daniel CILLIERS (*25-7-1795). Uit hierdie huwelik is geen kinders gebore nie. Jan Daniel het egter reeds ses seuns (geen dogters) uit sy eerste huwelik gehad. Hierdie seuns is tussen 1818 en 1828 gebore. Iewers tussen 1839 en 1842 skuif Jan Daniel en Magteld Margaretha Natal toe, huur die plaas Edendale buite Pietermaritzburg by Andries WJ Pretorius, wen 'n siviele hofsaak teen Andries Pretorius, besluit om Natal na die anneksasie daarvan deur die Britse regering te verlaat, koop die plaas Biggarsberg, buite Senekal in die OVS waar hyself, sy wederhelf, en sy oudste seun (Jan George Stefanus wat jonk en ongetroud oorlede is) aldrie begrawe is.
