<<Has anybody out there researched the WILLIAT family in Bucks? The name crops up twice in my tree: 1 Numan Williat married Frances (LANE) widow of Mathew DEVERELL 4 Feb 1633 Swanbourne>> Dear Bill, I am interested in the Williat family who lived in Great Horwood (and Little Horwood) from 1465 until the 19th century, though unfortunately my interest in them ends in 1600, so I can't help you with linking up the later generations you mention. The Newman Williat who married Frances Deverill in 1633 was born in Great Horwood in 1603. The tradition of using the christian name Newman, which the family maintained right into the 19th century, seems to have begun with his father (a yeoman of Great Horwood who died in 1610), so presumably his grandmother was a Newman heiress. Though that first Newman seems to have preferred to be called George, since he sometimes appears in the records as 'Newman alias George'. Regards, Matt Tompkins Blaston, Leics
