Hi List, I've just joined having learnt a little more about my ancestor born in Buckinghamshire. Does anyone know of the following family or other CROOK or BRAISHER families in the area? Does anyone know of a link between the CROOK and PICKERNELL families. See details below. My gggrandmother, Rhoda CROOK was born in Turville, Bucks 1823-1831. She gives a different age on every census and I've just got her marriage certificate which is different again. In 1854 in Brixton, Surrey, she married Charles HAWKINS born Canterbury, Kent. According to the Marriage Certificate, Rhoda is the daughter of Brazer CROOK, a carpenter. On 1851 Census (from familyhistoryonline) I've found Braisher CROOK, sawyer, and family living Turville Waste, Hambleden, born Hambleden about 1798. I've also found (on ancestry.co.uk) a marriage in 1792 between a William CROOK and Catharine BRAISHER. These could be his parents though I have no idea how common these surnames are in this part of the world - but it does suggest the first name is probably Braisher. I've found him and his wife Mary again on the 1871 Census - this time transcribed Brazier but the image isn't yet available on ancestry. In 1861 Charles and Rhoda are living in Brentford, Middlesex. In 1871 Census Rhoda has remarried a Thomas SMITH and is living in the same area of Middlesex. In 1881 she is widowed and living with a cousin John PICKERNELL, born Isleworth, Middlesex. No doubt it's time to check out parish records on film at an LDS Family History Centre but thought I'd ask. Cheers, Cathy Western Australia
