Dear Listers Am new to this list with just some very specific queries to air. I hope that SKS out there may be able to help. Re: William Hickey and William Munnew (Munnoo, his Indian servant) during the years 1808 - 1830 I am researching the above relationship and the eventual fate of William Munnew. My great aunt married William Munnew's grandson, and although the Munnews are not in my direct line their story is such a fascinating one that I can't resist following it further. William HICKEY was an attorney and diarist of Irish extraction who had lived and worked in Calcutta for many years. He returned from India in 1808 bringing with him an Indian servant boy of 13 named Munnoo. Munnoo, a Hindu, converted to Christianity and was baptised in February 1809 in Beaconsfield (where they were then living at Little Hill Barn) adopting the name William MUNNEW. [I have a copy.] William Hickey's diary is held in the British Library and a portrait of them both, painted in 1819, is in the National Portrait Gallery. I believe the diary ends in 1813. In 1814 the birth of a daughter was registered in Beaconsfield to William Munnew and his wife Ann. [I have a copy.] At some point after this, William Hickey and William Munnew went to live in Richmond. In 1820, the birth of a son was registered in Richmond to William Munnew and Ann his wife. [I have a copy.] William Munnew's occupation was given as 'servant'. It is possible that William Hickey died in 1830 in Bedford Square, St. Pancras, although his death and burial registrations have not yet been found to confirm this. On 7th June 1840 William Munnew's son was married and on the certificate WM is listed as a Licensed Victualler (deceased). Neither the registration of death of WM or his wife nor their burial has been found although much more is known about their grandchildren and later descendants. These are the few tantalising facts I have to go on. So my questions/gaps with which I need help are: 1. When was William Munnew married to Ann his wife? Is there more than one church in Beaconsfield where they might have married? 2. Was Ann also a servant in William Hickey's household? 3. Did William & Ann Munnew have more children than the two found so far? 4. Is Little Hill Barn still standing in Beaconsfield? Does anyone know of any photographs? I would be very grateful for any help or pointers with these questions. As I'm not familiar with the Beaconsfield area I don't know what information is available but if anyone has access to the Beaconsfield PRs and would be willing to do a look up for me that would be wonderful.
