Dear List, I have just joined this list with the hope that I can find out some more information about the HAWTHORN family residing in Burnham in 1825. (Do not know how long they lived there).I believe Hamlet H. Hawthorn was a teacher - perhaps why he was living in Burnham. I am particularly interested in Rebecca Halsey HAWTHORN who married my GrGrandfather (James Henry Dickson) in Dublin Dec. 1858. Rebecca Halsey HAWTHORN Bapt: 27 Mar. 1825 Burnham, Bucks Dau. of: Hamlet Henry Hawthorn and Sarah (FAIRBURN ?) M.: Dec. 1858 Dublin Ireland Hamlet Henry HAWTHORN B. 13 Nov. 1782 Bapt: 26 Jan, 1783- St-Mary's , Marylebone, London son of: Ralph HAWTHORN & Sarah HALSEY M.: 19 May 1781- St Botolph Without Aldershot, London I have searched the archives and found only one Hawthorn mention (not mine) nor does this name appear on the Bucks surname list. I have seen many listings of names by list members from a number of different Census lists (saw no HAWTHORNS) and mention of Census available on CDs. I don't suppose there are any from back that far (1825). I suppose baptismal records would be my best source. I am wondering what would be my best approach to find out more about this family with the only information available that which I have listed above. What sources are available online that I might search and would there be anyone who has access to any listings that I might locate them on? Would anyone know the names of Churches and Schools in Burnham 1825? Any information or advice would be very much appreciated. Yours sincerely Mary Margaret
Hi, I'm new to this list for this reason: I am helping a friend identify a couple that married in High Wycombe. Of course, she didn't note all of the detail (like the church name for example) but I wondered if there is a listing of marriage partners/marriage banns/Bishop's Transcripts for the period covering 1835? I have a copy of the marriage entry itself copied from the fiche but we can't read the wife's maiden name. What we know: William Bowler; Bachelor Mary XXXXX, Spinster married in this Church (I'm assuming the main High Wycombe Church) by Banns 31st May 1835 by me: XXXX Williams, Curate solemnized: William Bowler his mark Sarah XXXXX her Mark Witnesses: Thomas XXXXX his mark Sarah XXXXX her mark Any pointers would be useful.
