    3. I had several members of my family who were Gamekeepers in the 1700 & 1800's and wonder if there were any lists kept. They seemed to have traveled as far away as Ireland but always ended back in Buckinghamshire as Gamekeepers. Unless there was a job already there for them I doubt that they would have gone that far. They were listed in Quarter Sessions - because they had to have a gun licence, only available to gentlemen and their gamekeepers. This did mean that sometimes the son of a friend was appointr=ted 'ga,mekeeper' without doing the work involved, so he could have a licence. Gamekeepers did move about a bit - the idea was they should not get too fr8iendly with the locals. However, this is usually from one estate to another of the same gentleman (or to his brother's/cousin's/bets friend's estate) Ireland seems a bit far unless he worked for one of the local families with connections (the Lovetts, say) A lot of young men spent some time in Ireland as soldiers - there was always civil unrest there., -- Eve McLaughlin Author of the McLaughlin Guides for family historians Secretary Bucks Genealogical Society
