According to the 1901 census my Great grandfather Alfred Backhouse was recorded as being aged 35, living in Willesden, London. The surname was recorded as Bachhouse. In the 1891 census the surname was recorded as Backhaus, his age was 24. In 1881 he was recorded correctly as Alfred Backhouse, aged 15 living with the rest of his family in Leighton Buzzard, Bedford they are John Backhouse head aged 63 Mary A Backhouse Wife aged 56 ( I believe this to be Mary Ann Banks ). Charlotte Backhouse Daur aged 20 Louisa Backhouse Daur aged 18 Charles Backhouse Son aged 13 Dwelling was the Old Workhouse, does this mean that they were in poverty???. Those that have access to the 1861/51 census may be looking for more children than what is shown as John & Mary were married in 1844. Johns Father was a William Backhouse. I am asking the Bucks group as I have learned that Leighton Buzzard, used to be divided into two and half was in Buckinghamshire. Any help in this endeavour would be greatly appreciated.
