I have recently acquired parts of some memoirs written by my grandmother in the 1930's and she refers several times to Canon Graves as a benefactor of the WALL family in the late 19th century. Evidently my Great-Grandfather Joseph WALL, 1841-1921, worked at some time for the Canon, who encouraged the family to further the education of their oldest son William 1863- ???. William, it is said, went to University and upon graduating opted not to go into the ministry but became an organist at "Curzon Street Chapel" and then a foreign correspondent of some sort. I have no concrete information on William, apart from his Stokenchurch OXF baptism details and some census entries. My question is about the good Canon, in an attempt to fill in details of the WALL family in BKM. Rev John Graves was the owner of Bradenham Manor, whilst Rev M. Graves was the headmaster of the Grammar School at Marlow. Which of these worthies was the Canon? I suspect the former as being the more likely employer of Joseph who in 1871 was a Woodman, resident at Bradenham Lodge. Any clarification would be most welcome. Thanks Fred Wall Nanaimo, BC, Canada
