Hi Brenda, Have you seen the entry in the 1841 High (Chipping) Wycombe census? It lists a George ALLEN aged 11 living with parents of Samuel & Sarah ALLEN. Samuel's occupation is difficult to read but looks like "Chair Framer" or similar. Other members of this family are John 15, Samuel 14, Sarah 72 and William 5. In 1851 there was also a George ALLEN (age 19) slightly up the road in Hughendon which was a village involved in Chairmaking. In the 1861 census your George is a Chair Maker & Clothier and married to Ann. In 1871 they are at Pauls Row, High Wycombe. George is now just a Clothier. As well as their son Arthur J ALLEN, they also now have a son called George P ALLEN, age 4, also born in High Wycombe. In 1881 they have moved down to Eastbourne, Sussex but Arthur has disappeared. George Snr is listed as a Clothier & Tailor and George Jnr is a Clerk & H? Agent In 1891 George Snr is living with his son Arthur and Arthur's wife Hope Elizabeth in Eastbourne. In 1901 George Snr has disappeared; there is a death index entry for a George ALLEN, aged 63, Q2 1893 in the Eastbourne Reg District. As to Samuel ALLEN:- In 1851 he is listed at Lanes Row, High Wycombe. He is a Chair Turner aged 60 born in Heath End, Bucks (S.E. of Wycombe). His wife Sarah was 46 and born in Stokenchurch, Oxon. They have two children with them William (13 Chair Caner) and Mary A (9 Chair Caner).
