Hi Wayne, Thank you for your help. It is another name to try when looking for available information. What I have to do from here (Melbourne) is find books or articles that have been written on some of the Upper Gentry and if the research was done in the "right way" then maybe I get an insight into the life of my family and the conditions they lived under. What started this was finding an interesting snippet about the VERNEY family and my BUTCHER family and the lengths that they both went to, to get their way. I think I am living in hope but if nothing else I am getting a history lesson. Which is not a bad thing! Thank you all for your help.
