An American Mr Wells turned up at Ley Hill researching his family history. He is a descendant of Christopher Wells of Ley Hill, near Chesham, Bucks (son of James & Elizabeth Wells) who emigrated to the USA in the 1890s. Another son of James & Elizabeth Wells, Fred Wells also emigrated to Illinois in 1890. I am now corresponding with him about his family history. If you are related to James Wells 1831-1903 and his wife Elizabeth Wells (nee Palmer) 1834-1899 please let me know. This Mr Wells of Illinois is thinking of coming to England again and organising a grand family reunion. In the 1891 census James & Elizabeth Wells were farming at Crab Tree Farm, Ley Hill. They are are buried in Chesham cemetery, and there is a plaque to them at the back of Ley Hill (nee Primitive) Methodist Chapel where they were involved for 50 years.
