I am trying to find the marriage of William Whitmill and Elizabeth in the early 1800's. Their son William was born in Thame, Oxon in 1814 but there is no marriage in the OFHS database. I am wondering if they married in Bucks - perhaps Elizabeth was from that county? If anyone has access to the marriage index I'd be grateful if they could check it for me. John

Checking the 1841 census, I find William & Elizabeth WHITMILL, both 55 (i.e. from 50 to 55) in Thame, with son Joseph, 25, & daughter Susan(?), 15 - all born in county. Perhaps you missed the marriage. Maybe the spelling was a variant you didn't recognise. Aha! Thame PRs, OFHS transcript - William (X) WHITMILL otp married Elizabeth (X) HIGGINS otp 10 May 1803. Witnesses William (X) HEEL, Owen HEWETT. Banns. Could be the Elizabeth HIGGINS christened Thame 1781. Maybe the ages in the 1841 census are not accurate. Wouldn't be the first time. Thanks Paul - I'm embarrassed! Missing the marriage and the 1841 entry! I've made some amends by finding the family in 1851 - where William was shown as 68 b Moreton and Elizabeth 69 b Thame. So the bpt you found of Elizabeth Higgins looks as though it's the right one. I assume the date was after 31st March? I'll keep digging in Oxfordshire!
