Hello Paul Very many thanks for the details of burials of John & Mary Plestead in Ashenden. I have been trying to find the bap. of a John Plestead b.1747ish who married Rebecca ?b. 1761 who started their family in Chilton in 1785 when he would have been about 38 & she 23. I had hoped that it was John's second marriage. But obviously this idea is blown out of the water! Regards Liz -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. I see the logic of that, & it fits in with the last child born to John & Mary at Ashendon. If you were working from the IGI, (& nothing wrong with that, as a first step - I've found it immensely helpful), it would look a definite possibility - but the burials don't fit. I've had pet ideas knocked on the head by burials before now (but usually burials before the putative marriage), so I know how you feel. I presume you have Johns age from another source (his burial?). There is a John PLAYSTEAD christened at Ashendon in 1747 - son of William & Elizabeth - but I think he may be the one who married Mary. The only other John PLESTEAD or similar after 1726 is John, son of John & Mary, christened 1769. Unless the one who married Mary in 1768 is the one born 1726, son of Edward & Mary . . . . but there's a burial of a John in 1734, child of John & Martha, although I can't find a christening for him. Maybe in another village. There's at least one reference to a Plestead "of Chersley". No matching PLESTEADs in Long Crendon, Brill, Dorton or Oakley. That narrows your search a bit.
