    3. Just a quick note to thank all those that answered my ALCOCK / FROST / ELLEY questions. Your help is very much appreciated. I am wondering now though was the family living in a toilet or is an Out House something different in Eng? Regards Wendy in Australia.

    3. Outhouse used to mean any kind of extra building, long before most houses had even an outside toilet. Using it to mean outside toilet is an example of the sort of euphemism which has left Americans with no word for the place where people leave their coats. In this case, it could mean a house outside the village. Wendy taylor wrote: > Just a quick note to thank all those that answered my ALCOCK / FROST / ELLEY questions.
