The Buckinghamshire Family History Society will be holding its Open Day on Saturday 25th July 2009, 10am to 4pm, at the Grange School, Wendover Way, Aylesbury HP21 7NH (south east of the town between A413 and A41). There will be many attractions for Bucks researchers including full Bucks FHS library and databases, guest societies and commercial suppliers. Free admission and free car parking at the school. Attending Societies include Berkshire FHS, Dorset FHS, East of London FHS, East Surrey FHS, Essex FHS, Family & Community Historical Research Soc, Guild of One Name Studies, Hertfordshire FHS, Hillingdon FHS, London, Westminster and Middlesex FHS, Manchester & Lancs.FHS, Northants. FHS, Oxford FHS, Romany & Traveller FHS, West Middlesex FHS, Wiltshire FHS together with many Local History Groups and Commercial Suppliers. This year's Open Day will see the first Bill Torrens Memorial Lecture. Regular visitors to the Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies will remember Bill who sadly passed away last year after a brave fight against cancer. It is fitting that the first lecture in Bill's name will be given by Bill's friend and former colleague, Julian Hunt. Entitled "Buckinghamshire Personalities" it reflects Bill's wide interest in Bucks People from the prisoners in Aylesbury Gaol to the worthies around Winslow. There will also be a talk on starting your family history for beginners and "near" beginners.
