Hello Pat, By 1841 the workhouse under the Poor Law act would have been in operation at Upton-cum-Chalvey - now part of the modern Slough - Part of the Eton Poor Law Union. The old workhouse in Datchet would have been put to other uses. If you are only looking for one or two members of your family tree in Bucks joining any society may not be worth it. Have you had a good look round the Bucks FHS website? The Society will do searches of their records of transcriptions, for a fee. Please take a look at http://www.bucksfhs.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=17&Itemid=75 and http://www.bucksfhs.org.uk/index.php?option=com_searchrequest&Itemid=136 It should be noted that I am a member & trustee of the Bucks FHS. During that census the Goulds and Barnes were there, but if it was a workhouse in use, I would have thought many more names would have appeared. Maybe I didn't submit the query correctly, and therefore, only my particular request came up. Could that be so.? > Also do I have to join the Bucks Family History Soc. to make progress with geting proof of William Gould and Jane Lawrence's marriage in 1811, Datchet. I know the church does not keep the records, but they are in Aylesbury. > Regards from a lovely sunny winter's day in Australia. > Pat. > *************************************** > > BGS Website: http://www.bucksgs.org.uk/ > BFHS Website: http://www.bucksfhs.org.uk/ > Bucks Genuki Website: http://met.open.ac.uk/genuki/big/eng/BKM/ > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to BUCKS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
