    1. [BKM] Elijah and Jane Hanney Budd family, need help finding in 1851 & 1871
    2. Elijah seems to be the nephew of my 3rd great-grandfather. I just learned about him in the Ancestry trees and have the 1841 census with Elijah 22 & Jane 22 in Aylesbury and 1861 census with Elijah 42, Jane 38, son William supposedly 11 born Watford but really 21, daughter Emma 4 (Watford) and son James 3 (Paddington). In 1861 are in Paddington on ship William of which he is Captain. The couple married in 1839 in Aylesbury (his father John) and had three children whose baptisms appear in the IGI: William Edmund 1841 and Thomas 1842 both bap in Dec 1842 in Aylesbury plus an Eliza bap 1857 in Kings Langley. From other sources including Free BMD seem to have also had a Charles in 1844 (other says 1848, but none reg that year and would be young to be away from home, has descendants) and possibly a John in 1847. The first four children all registered in Aylesbury. Haven’t been able to pin down younger children. 1861 has a birthplace for Elijah - Tring, Herts. In 1861 I find a probable Charles 15 born Guilford, Surrey, mate on Lily of the Valley, docked in Paddington. Despite bplace I think this is him. Elijah died in 1880. In 1881 have a widow Jane Budd with a granddau Charlotte Shrift/Shaft 3 (think should be Charlotte Jane Swift,) born Pancras. Found a marriage of an Emma Budd to Richard Swift in 1878 in Pancras. Can’t find Emma and/or Richard in 1881 or chi ld either in 1891. In 1891 Jane 70 born Aylesbury is mother of William Budd 50, living with his family in Kensington. William named a son Charles. Questions: Were the boats required to dock at night? Or perhaps on census night? Did the enumerators go out along the canals and find boats on the water? I have looked under names of most everyone in family for both years with no success. Have only done a little checking for deaths. Thanks for any help, Charlotte -----Original Message----- From: bucks-request@rootsweb.com To: bucks@rootsweb.com Sent: Thu, Jul 23, 2009 1:02 am Subject: BUCKS Digest, Vol 4, Issue 134 The default format for the Digest is Plain text. The dates are based on 1851 census return when they were living in heath and Reach along with Ann's mother who was born in Soulbury in about 1771. 3. The enumerators certainly visited canal basins (e.g. at Aylesbury & Paddington) & other major mooring sites. Whether they caught every boat is another matter. One of my ancestors was a boatman, & he's missing in two censuses. Found on two others, at different major moorings - including Paddington. William Edmond & Thomas chr St Marys Aylesbury 7 Dec 1842 - Elijah (labourer) & Jane BUDD Marriage 02 Aug 1839 - Elijah BUDD ofa bach boatman of Aylesbury, father John Budd labourer Jane HANNAY ofa spin of Aylesbury, dau of Thomas Hannay Blacksmith Wit Sophia & Thos Hannay Few BUDDs in the St Marys register. A sprinkling from 1689 onwards, with big gaps. Far more HANNEY/HANNAY/HANNYs, from 1762 onwards. Paul ceaster99@aol.com wrote: > Elijah seems to be the nephew of my 3rd great-grandfather.
