    3. Hi Pat, Read your post, my interest is in emigrants from BKM to AUS. I had the date of death of Thomas KING tentatively entered as 11.07.1908 in Adelaide, SA, the SA Death Index doesn't seem to show him in 1886. Can you help? 3. There's one discrepancy in the records. The marriage of James & Ann OWEN, 03 May 1854, shows his father was also called James. But I cannot find a christening of a James son of James. I can find a christening of a James son of Francis. The 1851 census shows that James living at the wharf in Aylesbury with two of his brothers, & in the 1871 census there is a James on a boat with his father Francis, wife Ann, & children matching those christened in Aylesbury to James & Ann. I suspect an error in either the transcription or the original marriage record. Carrying across the last written name in error is not unknown. Heather Rohrer has followed the marriage record, & assumed the brother of Francis, who she has located christened in Warwickshire, was the James mentioned. By itself, that's a reasonable assumption. But she has no christening for either Ann or her husband James, & given the other information, I prefer Francis as the father. Some christenings at Walton church, near Aylesbury canal basin - 12 Apr 1868 Herbert child of James & Ann OWEN of Walton, Boatman 11 Sep 1870 Ada Hannah born 28 Oct 1869 child of James & Ann OWEN of Walton, Boatman 14 Apr 1872 Annie Louise child of James & Ann OWEN of Walton, Boatman Burials 23 Apr 1877 William OWEN aged 14 of Walton 03 Jul 1879 Francis OWEN aged 79 of Walton (the father of James, I believe - FreeBMD says he was 80). 09 Feb 1882 Henry James OWEN aged 17 of Walton Paul Jill B. wrote: > You'll find them at > http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&db=hrohrer&recno=96299 > > The ROADS Family of Buckinghamshire, and 'One-Place-Studies' of Waddesdon, > Grendon Underwood and Wotton Underwood. > Jill > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Christine Sadler" <csadleruk@ntlworld.com> > To: <BUCKS@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sunday, March 29, 2009 2:22 PM > Subject: [BKM] Surname ROADS > > > >> I am researching the family of WILLIAM ROADS who was born about 1857 in >> Quainton, Buckinghamshire. 3. I am researching the family of WILLIAM ROADS who was born about 1857 in Quainton, Buckinghamshire. He married Fanny Owen and their children were Edith Annie (b1880), Mildred Ethel (b1884); William James (b1886) and Albert Victor (b1887). I have been told that Edith Annie Roads was born on a canal barge but I haven't been able to confirm this. Census records shown that they were living in Exchange Street in Aylesbury in 1881 just after Edith was born. Although this is near the canal, there is no mention of living on a barge. Any information about the family will be much appreciated. Christine

    3. I have recently found a christening on the IGI index for Wm. TARBUX , 10 Jan 1816, Drayton Parslow. I know that the IGI is taken from the parish records but i wondered if someone could look up the original for me and tell me if it says he's baseborn or his mother ANN is a widow or something. I do have an Ann Tarbox in my tree, born 1795 in Drayton Parslow, so the age fits. I just want to make sure that Wm. TARBUX is hers or another Anns. Kind regards Christine

If i have 2 Johns and 3 Williams for instance, in the same village I have to work back to a common ancestor so i can eventually link them together. 3. In that case, this may prove handy. http://www.hertsdirect.org/libsleisure/heritage1/HALS/indexes/ There also seem to have been some in Amersham. 3. I've not been following this thread, but the name TARBOX rang a bell. A quick check shewed that the adjacent town and village of Great Berkhamsted and Northchurch, Herts. had vast numbers of them in the 1851 census. 3. They're in the IGI. There's another one christened 1820, son of Ann - no fathers name. Since Tarbox is an uncommon name, you'd have a good chance of identifying yours from a search of all Bucks parishes. The Bucks Family History Society will do that, for a few pounds per search of their databases. It will include any information in the parish register entries which is not on the IGI, such as witnesses at marriages. I don't know what their coverage of Drayton Parslow & surrounding vilages is like, but it's on their website - http://www.bucksfhs.org.uk/ They also sell transcriptions of complete villages, but I'm pretty sure Drayton Parslow isn't complete yet.
