    1. Coach Fares in March 1829
    2. Ken Baker
    3. I wonder of some person on this knowledgeable list may be able to help me? I have a schoolboy at Sedgley Park in Staffordshire who had an allowance of two pounds sterling ?2.0s.0d (two pounds) and 10 shillings spending cash for a journey home in March 1829 - But where was home? Does anyone know where I could locate a list of coach fares around 1829 so I could get some idea of a radius to where he may have travelled ? The nearest big towns from where the journey may have commenced were Wolverhampton or Dudley. And 2 pounds in those days would be worth about ?104 pounds in today's money - quite a substantial sum. Many thanks in advance, Ken

    3. Can SKS advise me as to what local newspaper would have been operating in Beaconsfield in the 1860s and/ or indexed the names in such a paper? I am still trying to track down details of Rev John GOULD's imprisonment for debt and subsequent weekend release to take services in All Saints and St Mary's, prior to his death in 1866. I would also appreciate advice as to what local newpaper/s are currently read in Beaconsfield, with an email address, if possible, as it has been suggested I might place an enquiry in such a paper (thankyou, Richard). 1. John & Elizabeth Blackwell
    2. Brian Sealy
    3. Trying to find additional information on John and Elizabeth Blackwell. According to 1871 Census John was born in Bradwell, Buckinghamshire in 1803 (age 66). In 1860 he was living in London and working as a Coachman. His daughter Harriett Blackwell (my grand grandmother) was married at old St Pancras Church in 1860. At the wedding there was a Richard Charles Blackwell. In 1871 he and Elizabeth are living on an annuity in London. Elizabeth was born in Suffolk, England and was 60 years old in 1871 (born 1809). I can not find them in the 1881 Census and assume they had passed away by then. I would like to find information on (1) John's mother, father, and siblings (2)marriage place and date (3)Elizabeth's maiden name and (4) when he migrated to London and (5) who was Richard Charles Blackwell, a brother or son or other relationship. Any information or suggestions to finding data would be appreciated. Brian Sealy

    3. Dear Clive I assume you have looked at the 1851 Bucks census and seen that John was a servant living with another family?Possible contenders for his parents are John and Esther? I have Youens that married my Pym family. Now,I know my cousin in Bucks met a lady in Wycombe library and they exchanged some details about the Youens family.I have our bit and probably somewhere along the line they are related.I will forward your message on to her and see if she still has details on the lady descended from the Youens family.I know she dosn`t go on line very often at the moment and she is not on the Bucks list,so maybe a while before she gets back to you. 1. BUTCHERS
    2. Pat Wade
    3. Hello, Some advice - I have just been given some details from a fellow BUTCHER/KING researcher. But I think they have made an error in a couple of places. The variation - Three of John Butcher & Ann Pennhill's children John Butcher bp 18/3/1821, Ann Butcher bp 19/12/1824 and Thomas Butcher bp 7/10/1827 all baptised in Whaddon. Now I believe that all three died young - John buried 21/3/1821, Ann buried 25/4/1826 and Thomas buried 11/10/1832 and from my notes written from the film I am reasonably confident in this. However I don't feel you can ever discount another researcher without proving it. This other researcher has John marrying Sarah Brown 12/3/1857, Ann marrying John Rothall, 28/4/1852 and Thomas marrying Caroline Steer. These three did not come to Australia when most of the rest of the family did. The films available for Whaddon do not go up this far for marriages. Has anybody sited parish registers and perhaps records BUTCHER details? Is there any way I can check these details? The GRO unfortunately only gives names so I could not prove in any way if they are these? There is also a query about the marriage of a Mary BUTCHER to William DOVER in Whaddon - time frame 1840's - 1850's. Thank you Pat

Her death certificate in 1845 has her >correctly entered as Silence GIBBS aged 77 years. Quite a lot of people - the family were prominent (and Robert Gibbs, historian of Aylesbury, and newspaper proprietor, his father the auctioneer are members. Big snag - they were nonconformist stalwarts, so not always recorded in parish registers. It is likely that Silence was an independent lady, who felt that she was entitled to stick to her maiden name if she so wished. It is just possible that the second marriage (in 1814 I presume) took place befofe the first wife died? However, i imagine that Silence was anything but Silent when it came to asserting herself. -- Eve McLaughlin Author of the McLaughlin Guides for family historians Secretary Bucks Genealogical Society

    3. Would SKS be willing to share info or lookup Harriet RAYNER, Pauper, of Wooburn, b by approx. 1810 & John (s/o Joseph & Tamar) ANTHONY of Wycombe or High Wycombe, Papermaker b March 6, 1793 & their ill. ch. James Anthony b c Abt. March 30, 1828. He was bapt. in Wooburn Parish. I believe Harriet is the child of William Clark RAYNER (Sr.) b High Wycombe August 5, 1789 (of Wooburn when ch. born,) and possibly Harriet DALE b c December 24, 1791. I've found bapt./burial records for children of William Sr. & Harriet RAYNER. Not sure if Harriet is Harriet DALE of Broughton, Oxfordshire area. There is a marriage of people of these names recorded there. They had a son William Jr. who was b. Newton, Oxon in the 1871 Wooburn Green census record. This son William m. Sarah HAWKINS b Wooburn. William Clark RAYNER (Sr.) is the son of James & Sarah RAYNER. Have some of the other children for all these families mentioned.
