    2. Is anyone researching the BARTON family in Eton & Windsor in the 1800s, cabinet makers, solicitors, auctioneers, and a teacher? They probably originated from Aylesbury. Peter.

    1. Anyone in the USA?
    2. Neil Rees
    3. I would like the help of someone in the USA ! I am doing some research and I am looking for an address for a person or family in the Washington DC area in the USA. All I have to go on is the Czechoslovak name and that she last heard of living somewhere in the Washington DC area, where she could still be. She was called Hana Moravec and then married with the name Disher which in Czech becomes Disherova. She was the daughter of a Czechoslovak official who lived at Addington Bucks in the early 1940s. In one book I have she has written a Preface under the name Hanyi Moravec Disher and in another book she is called Mrs Hanyi V Disher and in another book H. Disherova. I would like to contact her as part of a local history project I am doing about the Czechs in Bucks during the second world war. If some-one living in the USA has access to a national telephone directory or some other means of finding addresses I would be glad of an address for a Mrs Hana Disher. Thanks in advance. Birch is not an uncommon name in Chesham, so this form of check is necessary -- Eve McLaughlin Author of the McLaughlin Guides for family historians Secretary Bucks Genealogical Society

    3. How remarkably sensible, Kevin, stating the obvious which the rest of us had forgotten to mention. We know George wasn't married in 1851 (census shows him as unmarried & living with his parents), so he must have married between then & (probably) the birth of his first child. Not many years, I expect. Add the birth record of William, & all will be incontrovertibly established. Look on http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/, & we find the marriage of George Birch registered in the 3rd (September) quarter if 1852 in Amersham district. Ref = volume 3a, page 443. On the same page are Mary Bond, Maria Pedder & Isaac Rose (in that order). So he probably married Mary Bond, maybe Maria Pedder. Hmmm. Well I never! There's a Mary Bond, aged 22, in Chesham in the 1851 census. Not from round here, though. Not /*Local.*/ Silk worker, lodging with David Rose, brush maker, his wife Ann, silk worker, & a couple of others, all from the same furrin West Country parts except David. Maria Pedder was in Great Missenden, aged 18. So was Isaac, widower of 39 & (apparently) cradle-snatcher. So, Caroline, you see what these lovely census CDs can do for you. I confidently expect the 1861 to show George (33 b Chesham) & Mary (32 b Shepton Mallett) Birch. Oh, & look at the IGI. 3. Hi Caroline, There are 8 George Birch's listed in Ancestry.com's index as being born in Chesham - 6 are aged 74, 43, 38, 13, 9, 3 - all still in Bucks. 1 aged 54 and living in Watford, and 1 aged 26 and living in Bermondsey. The 43 year old George appears to be living with 7 children (no wife), one of whom is a 3 year old William. Does your contact have his/her George's marriage cert, and if so who is his Father?
