[Forwarded by Listowner] Hi Listers Harry Algernon Bassett - born 1870 West Bay, Bridport, Dorset married in 1900 Bridport to Emily Camm born 1874 Pymore, Bridport. Also known as Burton Bradstock. 1901 census has them living in London, Civil Parish - Hammersmith. Harry's occupation - Printer Compositor. Last known address: Eskdale Ave, Chesham, Bucks. Their home was called "West Bay". Harry was my granadfathers younger brother. Anyone out there know of any descendants? Thanking you in advance - Sally
My 3xg grandfather John BOUGHTON married Elizabeth DELL on 2nd February 1809 in Padbury BKM. They went on to have 8 children. I have never been able to find out anything about Elizabeth. From her death certificate I know that she died on 19th April 1848 and her age was given as 65, so she was born c 1783. The 1841 census just states she was born in the county so that's not a lot of help. I have searched the Padbury baptism register, but she is not there. Has anyone any info about her? Jean
Hello all. My ggg-grandfather George CROSS had a drapery business in Winslow, Bucks. He is listed in the 1851 census living in 154 Market Square. His father, also named George CROSS is listed in the Pigot's Directory of 1844 as a Maltster in Chruch yard. He died in 1844. Both of them were widowed in 1841. Could SKS look up these two individuals in the 1841 census? I was looking through the Biddlesden PR transcript last night when this name literally jumped off the page at me! I remember someone mentioning it on the list a few weeks ago, and as it's not a common name I thought it might be helpful to whomever was seeking the information: Baptism at Biddlesden: 1688/9 24 Jan Numan son of Numan & Elizabeth WILLIAT Also, I seem to recall that someone was researching the surname SQUIRREL: Burial at Biddlesden: 1695 25 May Elizabeth SQUERRELL Those appear to be the only references to these two surnames in the transcript (which is unindexed and covers roughly 1686-1811 with some gaps). I hope this is helpful to someone. -- Toni Skidmore Chicago, USA Researching: CLIFFORD/CLIFTON, DEAN, HOLLAND, NEAL(E), and NOQUET in Bucks
Hi Toni and all, The name Squirrell / Squerrill also appears often in the Syresham BDM`s if anyone is interested. Regards Pat & Chris Researching : Families of Syresham, Crowfield & Whitfield, Northamptonshire, England. also Biddlesden, Buckinghamshire, England . Always willing to help others if possible with 1841 Census for Northamptonshire and BDM for Syresham.
1841 census - Whaddon - Principal Street (not a name, a description) - William DOVER 25 Bricklayer Mary do 22 Jonathan do 2 Charles do 5 months Sarah do 43(?) Lacemaker All born BKM To find more, I think you might have to invest in some searches of parish registers, or wait until the BFHS publishes a transcript ot Whaddon & buy it. Note that Winslow in the context of marriage registration is a district, not a village. Without it being narrowed down to Whaddon, it would have been impractical to have looked for them in the 1841 census, as it isn't indexed. If you get the marriage certificate, it will give the fathers names. Hi Everybody, I hope you all had a good Christmas. Here in Australia our temperature was 26 degrees, a little cooler than normal, but of course a little more pleasant than in England. William DOVER married Mary BUTCHER, with their marriage being registered in Winslow Dec Quarter 1838. What i would like to know, if possible, the names of William's parents and the names of their other children and birth dates please. William and Mary migrated to Australia in 1847. Thanks very much to everybody that has answered my queries over recent months. The responses have been great and has helped me to proceed in my quest to complete my family tree. A Happy New Year to you all. Alan Australia
Alan, I don't know if this is your man, but there was a William DOVER christened at Whaddon on 31st August 1817 the son of Charles DOVER and his wife Sarah. Charles DOVER and Sarah ROBERTSON were married in Whaddon on 10th July 1817. A William and Mary DOVER were christening children at Whaddon on 16th July 1839 (Jonathan) and 30th May 1841 (Charles). Hi All Searching for descendants of the STREAM family from Buckinghamshire 1800s. Angie
hi is anyone related to the slatters or slaters of chilton 1790 / 2004 andy slater
Compliments of the Season to everyone Is anyone researching the above surnames in Langley Marish and the surrounding parishes in the 18/19th centuries. My main interest is in the IVE family but all the others are connected in some way to them, quite often more than once and there are some relationships that start to resemble the old song "I'm my own grandpa". I am particularly interested in a John MEAD who married a Mary PIPER, I don't have a date for this marriage yet but suspect sometime around 1770-80, it is cofirmed by the contents of various Wills. John MEAD died in 1818 and I am trying to trace his origins as all I have at the moment is when he died and I would like to know who his parents were and if he had any siblings, a long shot I know!! Apart from John MEAD I would be pleased to hear from anyone who has interests in the names I have listed, Burnham, Colnbrook, Datchet, Iver and Hedgerley all occur in the information I have gathered so far. You've not said what about them you want looked up. Their births? Whether they appear in particular censuses? I presume Benjamin is the one who was shown in the 1851 census as aged 19 & living with his parents in Biddlesden. Things had eased very slightly by 1913, for men anyway, but it was sttyill uncommon (till the late 1940s) If a divorce happened, then there will be the official record. I wonder if someone on this list can help me. I have version 3.0 of family tree maker on floppy disc. updated to versoin 9,00 on CD. My problem is this: I have just been given a lap top and this doesn't have a floppy disc drive. Can I make copies of the 3 floppy discs onto a CD and then use this to put the programme onto my lap top. (I can use my daughter's computer to copy to CD.) Assuming I can do this, do I then put the CD upgrade in and then make a gedcom of my data and download it to the lap top? If this is not possible will I have to purchase the complete Family Tree Maker? Thank you so much for reading this - I hope it makes sense:-) Jenny

Greetings All, After some years absence, I have rejoined the BUCKS list in order to exchange genealogical information and to enjoy your fellowship. The latest edition of "Bucks Ancestor" contained some interesting information in respect of the BURRIDGE family of Medmenham in South Bucks. That article prompted me to re-open my BURRIDGE file with a view to updating and expanding my data. I now have approx eighty BURRIDGE entries. My Burridge clan were at various times residing in the following towns: - Medmenham, Hambleden, Marlow, Cookham, White Waltham, Datchet, Maidenhead and Eton, with dates early 1700s to mid 1900s. I would be interested in exchanging any BURRIDGE information with fellow list members. Seasons Greetings Regards, Maurice Burns Perth, Western Australia
(Apologies if this appears twice) From my g. uncles army records (1902 - 1914) I found that he was married in 1909 and had a son born a year later in 1910. However, also on this army record is an entry which says "Wife struck off ....followed by 2 words I cannot read" and the date 9.8.12. I then was lucky enough to get his WW1 army record and this gives details of another marriage in Inverness in 1914 and also names his son born in 1910. I spent £6 on the Scotland's people website and found a marriage certificate for him giving his status as "divorced". (well worth the money!!) I thought it was very difficult for people to divorce at this time, and he certainly was not a wealthy man - just your average ag. lab. type. I have been in touch with the Divorce Absolute Searchline at 1st Avenue High Holborn, and they will do a search over a 10 year period for £20. Does anyone know what my chances are of there being a record of his divorce, and would I get much information for my £20? thanks Jean
