    1. AYRES, BAILEY, BOWLER, STRATTON, SYRED and TUNER in Princes Risborough
    2. A fellow Stockwell researcher was browsing the February issue of the Family Tree Magazine and came across a letter which may be of interest to those of you researching the names AYRES, BAILEY, BOWLER, STRATTON, SYRED and TUNER in Princes Risborough. She kindly typed in the text and sent it to me, knowing my interest in SYRED. Paul Brazell Berlin, Germany > 'Family in Princes Risborough?' > > 'The proposal to construct an extension to the parish church of St Mary, > Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire, may cause some graves to be affected. > We have identified the family names attached to the plots concerned and > wish, if possible, to make contact with present family members. > > I am writing to ask if any readers can assist our search by allowing us to > know the identity and address of specific people who may have an interest > in these burials and who may have constructed family trees. > > The families concerned are: Ayres, Bailey, Bowler, Stratton, Syred and > Tuner. Way back, in the C16 there were Tofields (sometimes as Tockfield, which makes it reasonable that the original name was derived from Tocqueville in France.) They are in the neighbourhood after this, but I agree, they seem to have upped sticks in the C19, unless they popped back briefly, between censuses. The group in Stewkley area are flourishing and Neil Rees is a descendant. > >*In the 1881 census, the only John Tofield in England married to an Ann >was a farmer in Stewkley -- Eve McLaughlin Author of the McLaughlin Guides for family historians Secretary Bucks Genealogical Society

    3. Ron, I can't find any Tofields in Great Missenden in 1851, 1871, 1881 or 1891*. Are you sure that's where he was from? What do you know about John & Ann? Names & ages of children (by the way, a birth certificate of a child would show Anns maiden name), places or approximate years of birth for either John or Ann would help locate them. The more you tell people, the easier it is for them to help you. *In the 1881 census, the only John Tofield in England married to an Ann was a farmer in Stewkley (where almost all the other Tofields were), & he & his wife were both 55. 1. LETT/SLEET surnames
    2. Victoria Fredenrich
    3. Hi all, I am new to this list. I am looking for any information on the surnames LETT and SLEET that may have lived in the village of Lavendon. My mother, Barbara Joyce LETT (b. 30 Sept. 1926) and her sister Phyllis Mary LETT (b. 2 Oct. 1924) were both born in Lavendon. Their parents were, George Robert LETT and Elsie Charlotte Elizabeth SLEET. I was wondering if anyone was doing any research in Lavendon and came across any of these names or the Surnames back into the 1800's. Any information at all would be appreciated even a no. Not interlinked, but not far apart. Shalstone is in North Bucks (I was chatting to the last of its Lords of the Manor last night); Paulerspury is just over the border in South Northants. It is possible that her family moved from one to the other when she was small, and either she picked the wrong place first time, or she was right and someone else guessed next time, because a sibling was born in the other. Whatever, looking at the registers of both parishes should produce family information. -- Eve McLaughlin Author of the McLaughlin Guides for family historians Secretary Bucks Genealogical Society

    1. New (again) to list - WHITE query
    2. Celia Renshaw
    3. I'm back to the Bucks list(s) after a long break. My interests in Bucks are numerous, main names and locations are listed below. Right now however I'm hoping someone else may be researching Buckingham WHITEs. My step-grandmother Ann Maria WHITE was born 19 Jul 1854 in Fleece Yard, Buckingham, dau of George WHITE and Ann (nee DRAPER), who was a Kenilworth girl. George WHITE was Ostler at the Fleece then The Swan and Castle, with landlord James BLACKWELL, and was born 1820/1 in Buckingham. I see that Buckingham baps remain the brick wall they always were, still not available on IGI or anywhere else online, so does anyone have George in their files please? Of if someone happens to be going to Aylesbury or Milton Keynes local studies, could you have a quick shufty at the St Peter & St Paul baps for 1820-ish? I can't see myself getting down there to do research for a long time so any help would be greatly appreciated. In return I can offer lookups in Buckingham marriages and other resources. When I was here before, the 1861 census for Bucks was well on its way - anyone know if it's now available?
