Just to let everyone know that I have just added a transcript of the 1841 census for Linslade to my Leighton-Linslade web site. This is in addition to the transcripts for Billington, Eggington, Heath & Reach and Stanbridge which were already on the site (I am now working on the 1841 for Leighton Buzzard) www.leighton-linslade.com The site covers the history of Leighton Buzzard, Linslade, Billington, Eggington, Heath & Reach and Stanbridge, so any one with connection with these places may well find the site interesting. Hi All Every month we at Archive CD Books reduce on county's CD's to half price. This month we have gone one (well, actually, two) better. For the rest of May all Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire CD's have been reduced, See the web pages at; Buckinghamshire: http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/acatalog/bkm.html Berkshire: http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/acatalog/brk.html Oxfordshire: http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/acatalog/bkm.html ====================================================== The Archive CD Books Project exists to make reproductions of old books, documents and maps available on CD to genealogists and historians, and to co-operate with libraries, museums and record offices in providing money to renovate old books in their collection, and to donate books to their collections, where they will be preserved for future generations. ====================================================== Best wishes -- Rob Dewsall ARCHIVE CD BOOKS Web : http://www.archivecdbooks.org.uk
So many of our ancestors faded away, many as children or young adults, from the effects of tuberculosis, the scourge of England in Victorian times especially. Dr Hugh Stradling will investigate the cases, the progress of the creeping disease known as THE WHITE DEATH because the victims grew paler and thinner for years. The talk is at 3pm on Saturday, May 14, at the Hartwell Day Centre, Thame Rd South, Aylesbur (off the A418 at the first main roundabout west of the town centre). Doors open at 2pm for an hour's research in fiches and CDs, problem solving with Eve and a computer session with Barney. Hello Eileen, My Pearce line, do appear to come from Bledlow, Radnage, and West Wycombe. Ann Maria Pearce who is on the 1881 census in West Wycombe did marry a William George Ford in High Wycombe around the 1887 period but he died after a short time and she remarried in Henley, at the moment I am working on this connection. Another Pearce (same family married an Ann Smith) both from Bledlow I have been lucky to follow the family on the Census from 1851 up to 1901 and obtain certificates and copies of old Parish records of most all the family. My granmother Lily Louisa Rebecca Pearce came from Radnage and was related to the Stratford and Stone families Thanks Pete.
Thanks very much to thosee who sent me the 1851 census entry for Regents Place. Very much appreciated indeed, and sorry for not having thanked the group sooner. Kind regards, Jon -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.308 / Virus Database: 266.11.3 - Release Date: 5/3/05
Is there SKS who has access to the Bucks Marriage Index for STEVENS who could possibly look up a marriage for me. JAMES STEVENS was born in Twyford in 1852 and he married ELIZABETH about 1875. I know they moved to London soon after the marriage and I would love to know her surname. TIA Jenny

Dear Listers In reply to a request if an index of post 1858 wills can be made available for searching on Internet I received the following reply from the Probate service:- Thank you for your email. The Probate service is currently looking at ways to put all the records on the internet which will make it easier for everyone to conduct their searches. Hopefully towards the end of the year or early next year. For those interested in Thomas KEEN and Mary BRIANT, I have just found a copy of the Parish Register entry for their marriage which I downloaded from the internet. I've copied it onto a Word document but it is still clear that it's from the Register. If my memory serves me well, I found it through Ancestry.com. If anyone wants a copy please contact me off list. Eileen
Hi Pete I'm very interested to hear about your KEEN and PEARCE families as I have both these names marrying into mine. I'm sending this to the list in case anyone else has these names in their tree. My KEEN is Phebe who married William CHANDLER on 22nd May 1820 in Hawridge, she was daughter of Thomas KEEN and Mary BRIANT. My PEARCE(s) there are two, Martha PEARCE, daughter of James and Ann PEARCE, married David CHANDLER 24th April 1852 in Wendover and Elizabeth Charlotte PEARCE, daughter of Charles PEARCE and Mary Ann HOBBS, married Alfred CHANDLER, son of David CHANDLER and Martha PEARCE, 27th December 1890 (Charles and Martha PEARCE were brother and sister - oops!). I'm starting to research the KEENs so don't know a lot about them, but the PEARCEs and CHANDLERs are quite "well known" on my tree. They came mainly from The Lee and Wendover areas. Eileen

I have a feeling that John Shaw was printing somewhere else (????for one of the Gibbs papers, in which case, try Herts). Chris Reynolds may know. I just have this feeling that he reached the point where he was putting his name to his own printing. Hi Can anyone please shed any light on census references to "Raby Worker" or "Nurse child". Many thanks Derek Keefe
I would just like to say thank you to everyone who has helped me (and is still helping me) with my James COMPTON. In particular Greg, Stella and Heather. It's much appreciated, especially living in Orkney with no access to English records. Still hoping someone may have a Hannah POOLE in their tree? Many thanks. Suzie
