    1. [BKM] 1861 walton census
    2. There seems to be an error in the handwritten version of this. Page 31 lists 21,23,25 in that order:page 32 has 19,17,15,13 and page 33 11,9,7,5,3. This reordering places well-known families such as the Eagles at 9, Terrys at 13 and Homeyers at 25 in the right place: also the Bricklayers Arms at 19. Is this old news? I haven't seen it mentioned before. There are earlier censuses that also list children as adopted but it was not a formal arrangement as, legally, no there was no such thing at that time or in 1901. As I said, it's far more likely that they were, in effect, fostered. It's highly unlikely there was any legal agreement either since formal adoption did not commence until 1927.

There was no formal adoption until 1927 so anything before that date would have been more akin to today's fostering arrangements and informal and within the (extended) family. It's more likely that your grandmother was fostered out, probably to a relative, distant or otherwise, if she was indeed "adopted". If the family was well off, then there might be a legal agreement drawn up by the family's lawyer with the family who'd be caring for the child. If that was the case then there might be a copy of the agreement in the lawyer's papers which might be at the local record office if his firm donated their old files. Such an event would be slim at best. If you know your grandmother's birth name you'll be able to get her birth certificate.

    1. [BKM] Rebecca Herridge marrying Samuel Collinns July 23 1853
    2. Alan Paul
    3. Is anyone Researching Rebecca Herridge or Samuel Collinns who married on July the 23th 1853 in the Parish of Chepping Wycombe. If so I would be interested in making contact as to try to ascertain exactly who Rebecca Herridge is. On her Marriage Certificate her father was given as John Herridge (Blacksmith). I have not as yet found anyone fitting him or Rebecca on either the 1841 or 1851 Ancestry Census Database. I have used different spellings. I am researching Arthur WRIGHT who married a Mary Ann HARADGE and lived in the High Wycombe area Arthur was born 1812 in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, and died 6 Nov 1880 in Laura Place Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. He married Mary HARADGE or CLARK on the 23 SEP 1833 in Little Marlow, she was born 1809 in Wycombe Marsh, Buckingham, and died in Jan 1874. Arthur WRIGHT was involved in the riots of 1830 and had a sentance of death passed on him which was commuted to 12 months hard labour. On the IGI it shows his wife as Mary HARADGE but on my GGrandfather (James born 1850) her Maiden name was given as CLARKE. Children of ARTHUR WRIGHT and MARY HARADGE (CLARK) are: Rebecca WRIGHT, b. Abt. 1831, Ealing, Middlesex, Elizabeth WRIGHT, b. 13 Apr 1834, Christened 2 May 1834, Saint Marys Street Wesleyan, Chepping Wycombe, John WRIGHT, b. 17 Sep 1835, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, d. 23 May 1888, Wycombe Marsh. Eliza WRIGHT, b. 26 Feb 1838, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, d. Bef. 1901. Ann WRIGHT, b. Abt. 1840, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, Susanah WRIGHT, b. Abt. 1843, High Wycombe, William WRIGHT, b. Abt. 1845, High Wycombe, Thomas WRIGHT, b. Abt. 1848, High Wycombe, James WRIGHT, b. 8 Jul 1850, High Wycombe, d. 1884, Gravesend, Kent, As Rebecca was born in abt 1831 and Arthur was in Prison I have always thought that Rebecca was not his child and that Mary had possibly been married before. In the 1861 Census Rebecca Collins Place of Birth was given as born Wycombe but in the 1871 and 1881 it was given as Ealing. The age has always pointed to born in 1831. Can anyone assist with any information that may answer my query. 3. Hello Martin, No, he is not your William King, what I should have done was put his death age down which was 68y and he was from Wotton Underwood, but looking at the IGI your William King x 1st Sept 1817 (Drayton Parslow) Sarah Toe, Elizabeth c 19th Dec 1820 (Drayton Parslow). Did you see Hamilton's crash (F1) Andrea -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of martin sear Sent: 21 July 2007 02:32 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [BKM] William King inquest found. Hi Andrea, Could you let me know if your William King is the same as mine. All I know is that my one was married to a Sarah and they had a daughter in 1820 called Elizabeth who married my John Sear in 1842 at Warwick. Regards Martin Sear -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Andrea Franks Sent: 20 July 2007 17:32 To: [email protected] Subject: [BKM] William King inquest found. Dear listers, Thanks to all for the advice on how to locate the inquest on William King's death by a certain stone in Ashendon. Which Caroline Liggett kindly found after a lot all searching, after I gave her the wrong burial year, which I did apologies to her for. He apparently was in a pit doing stone digging when the side caved in and sadly he was buried alive, in front of two of his sons and a grandson.
