    3. Hello Madeleine, I think you will have to do some delving into Dorset Parish Records to solve your problem. You wont be able to buy a Birth Certificate for Sarah as Registration of Births, Marriages and Deaths did not commence in England until July, 1837. I have looked on the BMD site http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl and it seems that there were plenty of DENNETTs living in Beaminster, Blandford, Dorchester and Wimborne in Dorset and also in Chard Somerset. It will most likely be in the earlier Parish Records of these places that you will eventually find references to your DENNETTs. Probably subscribing to the Dorset Rootsweb List may be your best move. Happy Hunting, Maggie. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, November 02, 2007 7:48 PM Subject: [BKM] Dennett > Maggie. Thank you for your help. I may have missed some of this thread, but according to the IGI Sarah, the daughter of Joseph and Ann DENNETT was christened on the 11th November, 1798 at Powerstock, Dorset. Nowhere near North Crawley I know, but might be worth following up. There was a baptism of a Joseph DENNETT on the 19th April 1761 at North Poorton, Dorset but I have not been able to find his possible marriage to an Ann. Maggie.

    2. > I have found a Sarah Dennett b.Nth Crawley 1798. I can find no trace > of her parents or other family members born in North Crawley. There is no male Dennett 16-60 (or Bennett) listed in North Crawley in Feb 1798. Therefore either she was not born to a family there or she is the illegitimate child of a female of that name. However, no pregnant female would be allowed to remain in the parish unless she had a settlement there, which would normally mean other Dennett etc adults living in the village. No Dennett males 16-60 are listed in the whole county, though a number of Bennetts. There is on Dent a few miles from N Crawley.

This is a frequent cause of death of young persons in their late teens and twenties - and it is pretty lucky if the rest of the family do not get it as well.. There would not be an inquest for a 'decline' - he would have been observed fading away month by month, with no suspcious circumstances attached. >

    3. Where exactly have you found this information? Is 1798 a Year of birth assumed from an age on a census entry? Might Dennett be Bennett? There seem to be Bennetts in North Crawley in the 1850s.
