Paul.... Having looked again, and also at the 1871 census, I agree that he is actually Zaccheus, not Laccheus - although Ancestry.com transcribe him as "Lacehens". I ask you! By sheer coincidence, he's living next door to one I my ilk that I didn't know about. Small world. Mike Chaney
1861 - The Bucks GS & British Origins have both transcribed his name as Zaccheus, which looks right to me. If you compare the first letter with the L in Lewis, immediately above, they're rather different. In 1851, the only Benjamin LACEY the right age is shown as born Askett (very near Princes Risborough), married to Ann, age 31, born Princes Risborough. Draper & Grocer again, age 30. No children. Can't see him in the 1841 census. He's listed in Dutton, Allen & Co's 1863 directory Benjamin LACEY, Draper & Grocer, Duke St. Note that there are hordes of Laceys in the area, many (surprise, surprise!) in Lacey Green. Princes Risborough is one of the few places to have both the 1821 & 1831 censuses survive, & a transcripion has been published (along with much else) in "The People of Princes Risborough", vols 1 & 2, by The Eureka Partnership. Ancestry transcribe the 17 year old as a Laccheus (and I won't disagree.) His occupation is Draper's Assistant, the draper (and grocer) in question being his father, Benjamin. > Also on the 1901 census Ebenezer Moses LACEY is living above a grocers > shop in Wycombe but I haven't had much luck deciphering his job either. Hi Listers, I am new to this list and have joined to find out what I can about the LACEY family of Princes Risboro'. The family are living at 35 Back Lane on the 1881 Census, but the first instance I have is 24 High Street on the 1861. At the moment I am finding it difficult to read the first name of the son aged 17 on the 1861 along with his job. His name looks like Laeshaus but the job has got me beat. Also on the 1901 census Ebenezer Moses LACEY is living above a grocers shop in Wycombe but I haven't had much luck deciphering his job either. Any information about the above would be greatly appreciated. Regards Paul in Bulwell Nottingham
Paul.....many thanks. As you have been so helpful with Aylesbury would you happen to know where I could find out info on my other gr, gr, gr, grandparents Thomas and Lydia Whiting probably born in Chaddleworth, Bekshre and married around 1823? Thank you, June ----- Original Message ----- From: Paul Irving To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, January 01, 2008 1:03 PM Subject: Re: [BKM] Hyde Family June, what I've given is everything in the Aylesbury St. Mary register for Thomas & Mary & their children, except this (don't know how I missed it) - 19 Aug 1839 William Elliott chr son of Thomas & Mary HYDE of Aylesbury, Grocer. The 1851 entries are from the Bucks FHS transcription: I don't have access to the original images for 1851 at the moment. It's possible J. H. was a mistranscription. There's also a single christening in 1838 - George, 12 Dec 1838, son of Charles & Ann HYDE of Walton, Labourer (Walton is part of Aylesbury - then outlying, now central). BTW, it's MOORES, not MOORE, though the names might still have been interchangeable. I'd say it's pretty likely that her last name was MOORES (unless it means that she re-married a MOORES, but if so it wasn't at St. Marys) & if you get the birth certificate of one of her children born after 1837, you can check. It'll give her maiden name. Available online at http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ with the reference, which you can get from http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl e.g. Mary Maria HYDE - birth registered Jun quarter 1838, Aylesbury district, Volume 6 Page 296 You can see that she & William Elliott weren't twins, but that she was christened late, & there was another William Elliotts birth registered, in 1840. Presumably the first one died, although there's no death registered (registration wasn't complete to start with). Paul June Dugaro wrote: > Paul, this is amazing. Paul, this is amazing. Thank you. So this means that Thomas and Mary Hyde are my gr, gr, gr grandparents! May I ask if you found a christening date for William Hyde born around 1840? He appears in the 1841 census as 8 months and 10 in 1851. And may I ask is there any record of the marriage for a Mary ?? and Thomas Hyde in Aylesbury? Happy New Year to all! How about Zacceus Lacey, Draper's Assistant? There is a Zaccheus Lacey recorded in the BMDs - 1843 June, Wycombe, 6, 412. Tania - There is a marriage on FreeBMD of an Arthur Brown on the same page as Thirza Rance (at Amersham, Dec Qtr 1894), which may be the one, and if you look for Thirza Rance in 1891 there is one, born Wendover, a domestic servant, which would all fit. Your friend would have to get some certificates to be sure, though.... Merry Christmas one and all! Full of roast duck (very tasty), pudding, etc., & with little to do, my mind turned to genealogy, & I thought - "What new questions do I have that someone out there might be able to answer quite easily?". The first one that sprang to mind was this - Does anyone have access to Brill PRs for the late 17th & 18th centuries? I recently, via wills & the Dorton PRs, firmly identified my ancestor Henry EELES (died 1749 Brill) as the youngest son of Robert EELES (will 1712, probably born Dorton 1635). But I don't have any PR records for the christening of Henry or any of his siblings, or Roberts marriage (wife Mary when he made his will). I know Robert had the following children alive in 1671, when his father John died (first naming them in his will) in Dorton - John (eldest son) Robert Joseph Benjamin Sarah And named the following in his will in 1712 - Wife Mary John (eldest son) Joseph (second son) Benjamin (third son) Henry (my ancestor, youngest son) & his wife Mary Daughters - Elizabeth & her husband William WHITTON of Rollright Mary Anne Any information on births or deaths gratefully received.
