I would call the Springfield Town Clerk and find out if birth records are available for 1907 and what you have to do to order the certificate. The public library in the place where he died may be able to help you as well. As a guess, contact the Pittsfield, MA library since Robert and his mother were living there in 1930 and you might find an obituary for the father. I checked the Ancestry Census. The father is Smith Buck. In 1910 they were in Arlington, Bennington, VT, in 1920 they were in Cobleskill, Schoharie Co., NY and in 1930 the father was not in the household, but the rest of the family was in Pittsfield, MA.
