'Globe' dated Murphy's Camp, May 31st, says: "Last night about 9 o'clock, Thos. BUCK, Thos. STEWARD and another man, were in their cabin at Douglas' Flat, Calaveras county; BUCK was lying on the bed; they had been drinking; they were conversing socially together, when the conversation turned on stabbing. BUCK remarked to STEWARD: "You wouldn't stab me, not even if I were to call you out of your name." STEWARD said he would. BUCK answered that he did not believe he would. STEWARD walked towards him, saying, "You don't believe it, eh?" stabbed him with a large bowie-knife, twice in the side and once in the arm, wounding him mortally. He then walked up to the other man in the cabin and threatened him with his knife, and made him give up all the money he had about him, $10, and left. He is pursued but not yet captured. BUCK is still living, but his physicians say there is no chance for him to survive."
