A link to a history of Onadonga Co, NY that mentions him: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyononda/ELBRIDGE/BEAUHIST.HTM I am attempting to discover if he is the Major Josiah Buck who is mentioned in family notes: Notes on the Buck Family The children of our great, great, great grandparents Ebenezer and Deborah Buck were: Ebenezer, Sally, Josiah, our great great grandfather born Dec. 29, 1766 at Hebron Conn. He married Lucretia Barker Jan. 27, 1791. Lucretia Barker was born May 23, 1771 and died July 10, 1808. [Josiah and Lucretia are buried in Union or Meyers Cemetery, Springport, Cayuga, NY.] Their children were: Alpha born Aug. 18, 1792 – died Oct. 2, 1810 Patty born Feb. 14, 1795 – died May 6, 1812 Lucretia and Josiah born June 19, 1799 – Lucretia died Aug. 27, 1839. She married Horace Baker our great grandfather Nov. 27, 1823. Sally born Dec. 23, 1802 – died 1863 Sept. 14, 1808 Josiah Buck – great, great grandfather – married Sally [Wheeler] Curtis who was born Jan. 2, 1774 at Westford, Mass. She died Jan. 23, 1853 at Geneva, NY. They had a son [Solon] and daughter both of whom died in infancy. Our great, great, great grandfather Ebenezer Buck was a sergeant in Captain Wm Hubbell’s Co. 16th Regiment, Col. N. Beardsley, in an expedition to Fairfield, Norwalk, and Stanford July 8, 1779. He entered service from Conn. Josiah Buck, our great, great grandfather was a major general in the war of 1812. He was wounded in his side, a wound that never healed. He crossed the Laurel Mts. in Penna. on foot and taught school 3 months while he was waiting for some legal business to be settled in court. His address was Covington, Tioga Co. Penna., Camp Canae post office ----- Higby. At one time he owned 2400 acres of land in the site of St. Paul, Minn. He was a machinist and installed cotton and woolen mills. His brother and sister Ebenezer Buck and Sally Barnes lived in Lanesboro, Mass. In a letter dated March 8, 1835 she speaks of her children Fidelia, Newell, Baelah, Sylvia, Betsy. Fidelia married ------ Gettinger.
