Dear List, Last week, I made a request for information on Hiram Buck of Macon County, IL. I just learned a few new things about this man. He was born in Steuben County, New York on March 1, 1819. He died in Macon County, IL on August 21, 1892. His wife was Martha Hammett of Douglas County. They married in 1846 in Coles County, IL. He was the presiding elder in the Decatur area Methodist church and was a founder and memeber of the Board of Trustees of Illinois Wesleyan University. The library at Illinois Wesleyan is named the Buck Memorial Library. Upon his death and later death of his wife, their gift to the University totaled about $250,000 in land holdings.
