His record of achievement as a retailing executive has continued unbroken to the present time, and he now heads an organization which operates over sixty stores in the states of Kansas and Colorado, as president of The A.L. Duckwall Stores Company. His offices are at Abilene. A native of Niangua, Missouri, Mr. Buck was born on February 26, 1905, son of Alonzo L. and Pearl (Strickland) Buck, both of whom are now deceased. His father was a farmer and a carpenter. Frank Harry Buck attended the public schools and graduated from high school, and beyond that point his education has come through practical experience. He started his career in variety store retailing at fifteen, working part-time while attending high school in Springfield, Missouri. At the age of eighteen, he was managing his first variety store at Higginsville, Missouri. IN 1925 he became associated with F.S. Reed Company, a regional variety chain with headquarters in Wichita, Kansas. In the years which followed, he managed stores for this company at Stillwater, Oklahoma, and El Dorado, Kansas. In January 1929, with exceptional experience behind him for a young man of twenty-five, he became associated with The A.L. Duckwall Stores Company, a regional variety chain then consisting of twenty-six stores, with headquarters at Abilene. He served as general superintendent of stores, and was elected to the board of directors of The A.L. Duckwall Stores Company in 1937. IN January 1950, he was elected president of the company, and that position he now occupies. Since he joined the chain-store corporation, it has more than doubled in size, and in large measure this steady and encouraging growth is the result of Mr. Buck's efforts, and his experience and exceptional talents in the retailing field. There are now sixty-five Duckwall stores in the two states where the chain operates. Long a leader in the Kansas State Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Buck served on it board of directors in 1952, 1953, and 1954. He was regional vice president in 1953. He is affiliated with the Free and Accepted Masons and is a member of the higher bodies of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. Holding the Thirty-second degree, he is a member of the Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine and the Royal Order of Jesters. He and his family attend Trinity Lutheran Church. In Kansas City, Missouri on October 14, 1933, Frank H. Buck married Norma Roughton, daughter of William C. and Mabel (Evans) Roughton. The couple are the parents of one son, Frank Dennis buck, who was born on Febuary 9, 1939."
