    3. The only census web page I could find from Ancestry for this family was for White Co., TN for 1880 -- census taken June 1880 John C. R. BUCK b. abt 1825 in NC Tabitha C.- wife b. abt 1846 in GA Mary B. - daughter b. abt 1866 in TN Barbara E. - daughter b. abt 1870 in TN Louise E. - daughter b. abt 1873 in TN James - son b. abt 1775 in TN John Horace - son born abt May 1880 in TN I tried searching Ancestry for Talitha BUCK but turned up no one that seemed to be the person referenced. Nothing useful came up from Tabitha either. If Talitha was born in Georgia, she may have gone back there to live? The census indicates her father was born in NC and her mother in GA. 3. Good Afternoon, There has never been any concrete proof that Isaac Buck was the father of Jonathan Buck, except where it is mentioned in the book by Katherine Raines Buck. As best I remember (as I don't have a copy of this book, but have seen it and copied portions from the Library), it does not cite her source for this information. The only record I've ever found regarding Isaac Buck and Hannah Hicks being married was in 1775, not 1755, in Philadelphia, PA. So I believe that it possibly a transcription error. Listed below is the marriage record of Isaac Buck and Hannah Hicks. Names of Persons for whom Marriage Licenses Were Issued in the Province of Pennsylvania Previous to 1790. Comp. John B. Linn and William H. Egle. (Originally published as Volume II, Second Series, Pennsylvania Archives) Harrisburg, Penn.,1890. Pennsylvania Marriages Prior to 1790 Pennsylvania Marriages 1775, May 7. Buck, Isaac, and Hannah Hicks. Mrs. Buck was in the process of revising her book, but she passed away a few years ago, right after Christmas. I am descended through Jonathan and Zuriah Buck's youngest son, Isaac Buck, born 1800. The notation below is the first I've seen where Jonathan has a middle name of "Taylor". Jonathan is buried in Putnam County, TN. I will copy and past some of my reasoning and questions related to my linking of Jonathan BUCK & Thomas BUCK b. 1712 & married to Elizabeth SCOTT. If anyone can add more arguments pro and con I would be interested. The link between Thomas BUCK b. 1712 who married Elizabeth SCOTT and his parents Thomas BUCK b. 1665 & Sarah JUDD came from the Samuel Buck genealogy, p. 80. For the father's marriage to Sarah Judd in Middletown, he is Thomas Buck of Middletown. Cornelieus Harvey on p. 30 indicates Thomas Buck died soon after going to Middletown about 1671. He said he left a widow Hannah who married second in 1667 Joseph Baker born 16 Jun 1655 by whom she had children Joseph in 1678 and Lydia in 1681. However, Harvey appears to have made a mistake here as the Middletown vital records indicate that Hannah married Thomas BUCKINGHAM, not Thomas Buck. Harvey concluded this Thomas was either a brother or cousin of Emmanuel and Henry BUCK, but the presenting of him as a son of John BUCK and Deborah HEWES leads me to believe he actually leans more on the side of possibly being a cousin (my interpretation). The Middletown, CT Barbour records appear to indicate this younger Thomas Buck b. 1712 married Elizabeth Scott. To determine for certain, someone needs to research wills and land records for more evidence. Their children are not recorded in Middletown and more work needs to be done here as well. A will or letters of administration would help in determining a list of children and which children grew up and married. Buck/COLUMBUS/ROSS PRODUCTS DIVISION/US) Subject: Re: [BUCK-L] Re: Looking for Michael Buck I too am descended from the Jonathan Buck-Zuriah Covalt line, and lean towards Thomas Buck being the father of Jonathan. Some circumstantial evidence comes from the Pennsylvania Archives (many libraries have the archives and index) and is also contained in the book "Mother Bedford In The Revolutionary War" (http://www.motherbedford.com/BookAd.htm). There are some familiar names in these records, including militia Captains Abraham Covalt (Zuriah's father) and Thomas Buck, militia private Jon Buck, and if memory serves me correctly there were several "Buck" privates which could be related. Military service (or a very large tax) was compulsory for certain age brackets, but Elizabeth's husband Thomas Buck (born 1712, 64 in 1776) would have been too old to have been required to serve. I suppose anything is possible, but the 1712-born Thomas seems a bit old for this role. I don't know about Elizabeth Scott's age- How old would she have been when Jonathan was born in 1755? I wonder if Captain Thomas (Buck, not Covalt) was maybe a Jr and a sibling of Jon's? Footnote: Zuriah's father Capt. Abraham Covalt was a veteran of the French and Indian War, and after the Rev War moved on the the Cincinnati area, founding Covalts Town where he was killed in an Indian attack in 1791. Another of Abraham's daughters wrote a short history of that settlement. And the way the dates change and is either 1754/5 which could be possible they had Jonathan Buck who married Zuriah Covalt. I see many people using this book as their source, but have not seen it. They list many many descendants from Jonathan Buck & Zuriah Covalt to TN, IL , MO, KY mostly TN, I think. Any comments on this and has it been checked out. Carol Katherine Raines Buck titled "A History of Jonathan and Zuriah Covalt Buck's Descendants and Allied Familes". I ordered a copy from her for $ 31.45. Her address is: HC 71 Box 520 Alpha, ky. 42603. She was working on a supplement when I got mine in 1996. 2. I too am descended from the Jonathan Buck-Zuriah Covalt line, and lean towards Thomas Buck being the father of Jonathan. I wonder if Captain Thomas Covalt was maybe a Jr and a sibling of Jon's? Footnote: Zuriah's father Capt. Abraham Covalt was a veteran of the French and Indian War, and after the Rev War moved on the the Cincinnati area, founding Covalts Town where he was killed in an Indian attack in 1791. Another of Abraham's daughters wrote a short history of that settlement. 3. Al, Like Margaret, I wish I had more information to give you, but I don't. No I don't have any crucial information that would support what we think to be. ----- Original Message ----- From: <ALVJR@aol.com> To: <BUCK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 19, 2006 10:13 PM Subject: Re: [BUCK-L] Re: Looking for Michael Buck > Thelma, Yes Jonathon was married to Zuriah Covalt.
