You might want to research the Indians who were in the area of TN you think George W. Buck was from. Any thing you can recall of where the family was from. Write the library of the area for any information on the local Indians. I was trying to help a lady in our area to search her Indians. The film we were looking at had both White name and Indian name. It was interesting. We also have some information in the local library. Write down every thing you can remember which was told to you. Do you rememeber any mention of other relatives. Have you asked all your relatives what they remember, and were there any bibles left or old letters, anything. Some times asking questions will jog a memory. Start by asking all relatives you know questions. Then ask if they might know of any one who might have the information. Some times you find relatives you did not know you had and they my be the one with! the information. I had that happen to me. I wrote everyone in my grandmother's address book. Found a relative in Canada who happen to have the family bible and a picture of my grandmother's parents which no one here in the U.S. had. Also they sent me the old letters written by my great grand father. Work with what you know to the unknown. Write lots and lots of letters. Good luck. Carol

The dates I have, hand written by my Grandmother, show George Washington Shelton born April 1, 1846 & died December 25, 1923. He was married to a Mariaba. She has written that he was the son of James Shelton & (Sarah) Salley Buck. There are no dates for James or Salley. It also has Tennesse written beside their names. My Grandmother told me all of her life that Salley was Indian. She said she remembered as a little girl George Washington Shelton speaking to the Indians in their native tounge. He was living in Oklahoma at the time. I am not sure if this is the right line or not. I wish it was so I could find her! Do you have a record of who your George Shelton was married to?

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VYG.2ACIB/1536.1 Message Board Post: You haven't provided too many clues to start on. The family does not seem to be listed in the VT Families in 1791 series where I hoped they might have been listed. I would join and post to the Buck-L@rootsweb.com list directly as there is at least one lady on the list I believe has this family in her database. Sometimes a discussion on the list helps surface some better sources than one just finds online. It appears that your Matthew BUCK was born 17 Nov 1780 in Shaftsbury, Bennington, VT, the son of Thomas BUCK and Abigail __?__. Thomas BUCK was apparently born 16 Oct 1761 in Scituate, Providence, RI . He may be the son of John BUCK & Mary AMES of Plymouth, Bridgewater, MA and later of Pownal, Bennington, Vermont. I have not personally verified this, however, so you will need to work to do that. There are a couple databases on WorldConnect that have these same families as does my other souce. . However, they provide no sources other than perhaps gedcom files or he LDS Ancestral File which can have multiple errors but also good clues.

Edward ran away from home at a very young age and worked for the railroad for many years before he settled down with Olive and raised a family. I could not find anything on him before the 1920 census ... no records for 50 years ... he started his family late in life, married at 42 ... maybe he had another family? Edward married Olive Belle Johnson and they had 7, maybe 8, children (Les, Russell, Raymond, Elwood, Frederick, Glaydys and Harold). We would love to find out about from Chris and back as we know nothing of this family. Does any of this family sound familar to you? Marie

I wrote in over a year ago and didn't get much of any response. The farthest back I can document is with Matthew Buck b. 1780 in VT and wife, Magdalena ?Decker b. 1792 in NY. They wed about 1808 in the Steuben area of NY and then migrated across PA to OH with most, if not all, of their children. They were in Ohio by 1833, since their eldest son wed in Athens Co., OH in that year. Some of Matthew and Delaney's children later moved on from OH to Missouri around the late 1880s. Some of these Buck descendants also moved on to Columbus, OH. I also believe there is a connection between these Bucks and the ones in Meigs Co., OH. I am willing to share what I have.
