I'm not sure of any relation to the family, but I recently came across a census record that makes me wonder of a possible connection between the Bucks and the Andersons: My great-great grandmother Alpha O. Anderson was born April 22, 1850, in Illinois, to John T. and Anna R. (Marcum) Anderson. In 1860, she's listed in the Warren County, Illinois, census as living with Cyrus L. Buck (30) of VT, Julia Ann (Baker) Buck (26) of Ind., and Endora (?) Buck (2) of Ill. I'm assuming that Alpha became an orphan sometime between 1852 (when her youngest brother was born) and 1860. Do you know anything more about this? Let me know. Thanks for your help!

Sue, I found Matilda A. Buck born 16 May 1823, Delaware County, OH; died 5 Aug 1901 Morrow County, OH daughter of Andrew Buck & Olivia Horr. She married on 7 May 1841, Delaware County, OH to John L. Riley born 17 Apr 1819, Berkshire, Delaward, OH and he died about 1880 OH or after? Son of Henry Riley & Drusilla Hyde. Children: Levonia, Levi P., Esther O. Riley. I have the line of Andrew Buck back to the first one which was Emanuel Buck & Sarah Riley of Wethersfield, Hartford, CT if you are interested. Question if you can answer. I found and do not know if it is correct that Justice of the Peace and brother Edmund Buck presided at sisters wedding on & May 1841. Lucy H. Buck who married David C. Baughman and it had Cardington, Morrow, OH and Matilda A. Buck to John L. Riley on 7 May 1841, Delaware County, OH which I found was Morrow County in some places. I believe this needs some research. I do not know if he did both at the same time or was not correct when entered. This information was on the Internet at several different sites and pieced together. I only had the name Matilda A. Buck in my data base until I started looking to answer your question. I to am a decendent of Jonathan and would love to know who of Jonatjan's children all of you are tied to. If any would care to e-mail me with some of your information I would appreciate it and also give any information I might have. Most of you all seem to already have all the information of Jonathan. Again, would like to tie a lot of my cousins to what I have on my files. Carol, Regarding Jonathan Buck, 1755: This first appeared in a book by Katherine Raines Buck regarding Isaac Buck and Hannah Hicks being the parents of Jonathan Buck, but I have never seen where she cited her references for this. Sadly, Katherine Buck passed away a few years ago, in the process of updating her book. The only proof I have ever found states that an Isaac Buck and Hannah Hicks were married in 1775, some 20 years after Jonathan Buck was born. This is according to the "Record of Pennsylvania Marriages Prior to 1810" Volume 1, Marriage Records of the Swedes' Church, Philadelphia 1750-1810. They were married on May 6, 1775. At this point in time, Jonathan's parents are unknown, but the Thomas Buck and Elizabeth Scott line is promising, but also unproven at this time. Cindy Buck-Thompson Maryland

At this point in time I believe the "likely" parents of Jonathan BUCK to be Thomas BUCK and Elizabeth SCOTT. That being said the several CT Thomas BUCKs appear to have been confused and there may even have been two different Thomas BUCKs living in Middletown, CT at the same time. Then in the scenario you presented is yet another theory. Hopefully some day, more proof will emerge to rule some of the theories in or out. Carol, I also am descended from Jonathan and Zuriah (Covalt) Buck and would be very pleased if you would let me know of your findings concerning our mutual ancestors. I wish you well on your search in VA. I would be happy to send you info I have on Jonathan on down my Buck line if you are interested. - Jack L. Stump Campbellsville, KY
Since I first started doing family history twenty years ago, I have been interested in finding the family origins for Jonathan Buck b.1755 who married Zuriah Covalt. The popular assumption seems to be that the parents were Isaac Buck and Hannah Hicks, but I do not know what proof exists of that. I am going on a trip to Washington, DC at the end of this month to attend a convention, then I plan to spend an additional week visiting sites in Virginia which might be of interest in my various ancestor searches. I particularly want to visit Front Royal, VA to find what I can on the Buck family that lived there in the 1700's. Years ago I found a book containing a pen and ink sketch of a Rev. William Calmes Buck, son of Charles Buck and Mary Richardson who was born August 23, 1790 in Shenandoah (Now Warren) Co., VA. I feel the picture bears a strong family resemblance to my uncle, Lacy Wolfred Buck b. June 21, 1901 near Johnson City in Washington, County, TN., which leads me to suspect that my ancestor Jonathan was from the same Buck family source as William Calmes Buck in Virginia rather than from the often referred to Connecticut roots. My theory goes along the lines that there was an established Buck family from the 1600's on in Virginia when Thomas Buck, age 17, left Gravesend, England on 21 August 1635 on the ship "The George" and settled in St. Charles (later known as York) County in the Tidewater section of Virginia. His descendants, which included William Calmes Buck's direct family line, were found some two or three generations later in the area of today's Front Royal, VA. According to my modern day Mapquest search, it is only a little over 100 miles on today's roads from Front Royal, VA to the Bedford, PA area where Jonathan Buck lived until 1791. Given the nomadic abilities of our ancestors, perhaps Jonathan's father felt a journey of that length certainly would not be out of the question if there were good opportunities to be found there. If anyone has any reactions or suggestions which might help in my search, please let me know by Sunday, June 25 if you can. I leave on Monday and probably won't have access to a computer until I get back. Carol in CA
I went down to Hunter Cove Cemetery yesterday afternoon and thought I may find his grave down there. I found Perry and Della's but not his. There are several graves just marked with rocks with no name. He may be there. I will have my mother to call Dessie's daughter and see if she knows anything. Eli Joshua's wife didn't know anything and I doubt Dessie will be any help either. That is if she has her phone number. Hi.... In the 1910 Census, James Anderson Buck, born 1834, is found living (as a Widower) with his son Perry, Perry's wife, Della Maynard, their daughter: Velura E. Buck and Perry's half brother, J.T. Buck, son of Elizabeth and James Anderson. I have lost track of James Anderson Buck after the 1910 census. As he was 76 years old in 1910, I imagine that he passed away, but I have been unable to find a listing for him in any of the records kept by the state of Tennessee or the various cemetery books that exist for that area.... Again, this James Anderson Buck is NOT my relative, but rather another James Anderson Buck living in the area at about the same time as my own fellow. I've just always been curious about him because I can't place him with any family that I know about.... He first appears in the 1850 census at age 16 living in a household with John and Eva Moorland (they are 72 and 74, respectively) and in the 1880 and 1900 census he states that his parents were both born in Tennessee. It is odd, too, that I haven't been able to find the actual death date or burial place for my own James Anderson Buck. I suppose that he died around 1873; although the William Bedford Buck diary has his year of death listed as 1883 - I have found nothing to support 1883, and do not find him in the 1880 census. His first wife, Jane Richardson MAY have been a sister to his brother's (Henry Jackson Buck) first wife, Martha Richardson.... It does get complicated, and I find my head - such as it is - swimming at times.... But I'll keep looking. This is so weird. I was just about an hour ago talking to my oldest Buck cousin about him and she didn't know. I believe you told me that you found him in the census living with his son Pery Buck. That is all I know. I am taking off of work Friday. I am going to Clay Co. library. If I have time I will come back by the archive and see if I can find anything on him. That is if the archive is open. I think they are only open 20 hours a week and I don't know when that is. Hi... There are two James Anderson Buck's in Tennessee in the mid to late 1800's - I know that James born 1826 and died probably about 1873 or so, is the son of Elijah Buck and Nancy Ann Denton, but I do not know the parents for James born 1834 and died sometime after the 1910 census was taken (I do not find him in the 1920 census) ... Two questions: Does anyone know who James 1834's parents are? Does anyone know when either of these two people died and are buried? Thanks. I have been doing a lot of research on Nelson Buck b: 1808 in Chemung County, NY and wondered if anyone knows of sources other than "*The Biographical Record Of Livingston And Woodford Counties Illinois*" that mention the marriage of Nelson Buck to Fidelia Wethey or the birth of their son Oliver P. Buck. Oliver P. Buck lived with his Grandfather Abel Wethey in Port Byron, Cayuga County, NY after the death of his mother Fidelia Wethey in about 1833. Oliver P. Buck was born in about 1832. I have never found a birth record for him. I did find Guardianship records and that he changed his name from Oliver P. Buck to Oliver P. Wethey in 1853. After the death of his Grandfather in about 1836, he lived with his uncle Porter Wethey. Family stories say only that Abel Wethey did not approve of a "Buck", who I believe to be Nelson Buck. According to "*The Biographical Record Of Livingston And Woodford Counties Illinois*", Nelson Buck moved to Illinois after the death of his first wife Fidelia Wethey. Any additional information or possible sources would be much appreciated. Thanks, Erik
