Surnames: Buck, Haddock, Wells Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VYG.2ACIB/1187.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Albert, I have a marriage record of Ransom L Buck, age 23 years, and Jemima L. Fort, age 16 years, , dated Dec 20, 1886, filed in Independence County, AR. I was looking for a marriage record of my Wells ancestor, James D Wells, who married Martha E. Buck. I found both of these marriages on the same page, same marriage date. Martha was Ransom"s sister, and James was Jemima's first cousin. It must have been a double wedding! Jemima's father was Urban E Fort and her mother was Martha A Wells (James' aunt). I lost track of Louisa E Buck after 1920...do you have any more info about her?Would like to find her grave.....

Can you provide me with further information; place born, date of birth, date of death, etc. Any info would be helpful. In 1920 Ransom and Mary were living in Yoakum Twp., Lavaca County, Texas. Ransom, Edgar and Alfred were working for the railroad. I have the census if you would like a paper copy or I can tell you where to find on Ancestry.com. Thanks Albert

The following, concerning Henry Buck Sr., whose will is above, was taken from ORIGIN, HISTORY AND GENEALOGY OF THE BUCK FAMILY, by Cornelius Harvey, Esq.; Jersey City, N. J., J. J. Griffiths, Steam Book and Job Printer, 1889; LOC Copyright April 20 1889, Washington, Copy #8624 - Microfilm Copy No. 2; pp. 34, 35: Page 34: “The eight children of Henry Buck (2) and Elizabeth Churchill, born at Wethersfield, Conn., were: (23) Henry, b. 1662 (24) Samuel, b. Feb. 2, 1664 (25) Martha, b. Oct. 15, 1667 (26) Elizabeth, b. June 6, 1670 (27) Mary, b. March 12, 1673 (28) Sarah, b. July 25, 1678 (29) Ruth, b. Dec. 4, 1681 (30) Mehitable, b. Jan. 4, 1684. Of these eight children Henry Buck (23) removed to Fairfield; Salem Co., N. J., about 1692, in company with Connecticut settlers, who located in Fenwick’s Colony, where he married Rachel ---------. Their descendants scattered over New Jersey, Penn- [page 35] sylvania and Delaware. Shrouds, in his “History and Genealogy of Fenwick’s Colony,” says that Henry “became one of the leading men in Fenwick’s Colony, as the records of Salem fully confirm.” In partnership with one Richard Whitacar, a Quaker, he opened a store in “New England Town.” The firm, as appears by one of their account books (now in the possession of Caroline Whitacar, a descendant of Richard Whitacar), must have done an extensive business, besides owning a sloop which traded as a regular packet between Cohansey and Boston. The first entries in this book are dated 1704, but the firm must have been in existence long before that time. Henry was elected a Justice of the Peace and served as foreman on the Grand Jury of Salem County in 1707. Besides holding the office of Overseer of the Highways for South Cohansey precinct, he filled several other public offices of trust and confidence, all of which proves him to have been a representative man of the Colony. He died in 1726, leaving a large estate, including several negro slaves. His will, dated Feb. 9, 1726, was recorded in Liber 2, page 326 of Trenton wills. His children were: I. Henry; II. Ephraim; III. Jeremiah; IV. Dayton; V. Judith.”] 1725-6 March 14. Buck, Henry, of Cohansey, Salem Co.; will of. Wife Ruth. Children – Henry, Jane and Hannah. It was not under familysearch.com, it was under Esther Buck in www.gendex.com. I can not tell you which Esther, you will just have to go through the Esthers to locate it. Or, you can try Isaac Buck and it may be a more direct route. Happy Hunting!
