Hello, I have some distant forebears who originally hailed from Bucksfield/Bucksport, ME. Does anyone have any information on a Charles C. Buck? Or any of his sisters: Capitolia and Octavia?? I believe that they were born in the early 1830's. Any info would be greatly appreciated..... Thanks, Tim

I think my Bucks helped to settle New Milford. This is what I have on them: Ezekiel, Enoch and Jonathan Buck, (sons of Ezekiel b. 15 Jan 1650 Wethersfield, CT and Rachel b. 19 April 1654 Farmington, CT Andrews Buck m. 18 March 1675 Wethersfield, CT) went to New Milford about 1706. They were the 22nd, 23rd and 24th settlers according to the elders of the town. No one kept records of the actual dates that the settlers arrived. There is a History of New Milford by Samuel Orcutt that gives some information but I haven't verified it. Would love to get ahold of New Milford Vital Records. A lot of my information has been found on the Internet and, therefore, could be questionable. Ezekiel (Jr.) b. 8 Jan 1767 Wethersfield, CT, m. Sarah Bronson of Farmington, CT, 17 Jan 1697/8 by Capt. Thomas Hart in Farmington d. 15 July 1715? New Milford. They had a son named Ezekiel b. 25 March 1699 Wethersfield, CT that m. Lydia Brownson 15 Dec. 1724 New Milford, CT. (There was a sister named Rachel but she was born 23 July 1678 in Wethersfield.) Enoch b. 5 April 1683 Wethersfield, CT m. Mercy Taylor (b. about 1685 Milford, CT) about 1707 in New Milford. Mercy died before 1717 because Enoch m. Mary Beebe (b. 26 Sept 1699 Danbury, CT) New Milford Congregational Church, 2 May 1717. They both died in New Canaan, NY. Jonathan b. 23 July 1679 Wethersfield, CT m. Mary Andrews 4 March 1700 Wethersfield, CT by John Haines, Esq, Justice of the Peace. Jonathan came to New Milford with a family of three or more children. I show most of their children were born in Wethersfield and I have a count of 7 children (Ruth b. 23 Jan 1702/3 Wethersfield m. Nathan Terrill 8 June 1721 New Milford; Jonathan (Jr.) b. 10 Oct 1708 Wethersfield m. Betty Bostwich 9 Jan 1733 New Milford. He d. 23 Nov 1778 and is buried in Armenia NY in the burial ground of church Carmel in the Nine Partners; Ebenezer b. about 6 Jan 1701 or 1706 (need to find his birthplace) m. Abigail Felt (b. 24 Dec 1710 Newbury, MA) 15 Nov 1731 Somers, CT. He died 30 Sept 1762 Havana, Cuba? (need burial place); Mary b. 3 Aug 1714 Wethersfield m. Nathaniel Hollister 29 Dec 1731 New Milford; Moses b. 12 Sept 1711 Wethersfield, christened 16 Sept 1711 Wethersfield, m. Eunice Miles 29 Sept 1730 New Milford; Comfort b. 19 April 1707? ?, m. Willliam Ostrandress of Dutchess Co., NY 2 Jan 1740 New Milford; and Joseph b. 20 June 2706 Wethersfield m.Ann Gould 5 June 1729 New Milford d. 1770 New Milford.). Jonathan joined First New Milford Church in 1718 and his wife, Mary, joined three years later. But this was probably Mary Orcutt, not Mary Andrews. Mary Andrews may have died in 1714. The marriage to Mary Orcutt was on 2 May 1715 in New Milford. They lived on Poplar St., north of William D. Black's farmhouse. I think I have found four more children that are probably Mary Orcutt's children. I haven't gotten any further with Ezekiel Jr. and Enoch but they may be your Rachel's parents. Good hunting and I'd really like to hear from you if you turn up anything. Maybe we have a common ancestor! It sure looks like it from the first names anyway. "Mr. Truman Buck, aged 82 years, who died at his home near Chatfield was buried here Sunday. He was a brother of E. D. Buck of this village, Wm. Buck of Racine and Geo. Buck of Dexter. The deceased moved from Illinois to this county some 30 odd years ago and was a well known and respected citizen. Good afternoon John; Still trying to find a home for my James Buck from Ga to Ala( Marengo Co.) before 1830. Today I came across a letter on the Internet address to Emma Buck, McKinley Alabama It looks as if is from Brooksville ( Miss??) I cannot make out the date..but it does have a stamp ( right profile of a man). McKinley is the location of my James, Joseph,John Wesley. Mary Louise lived. Could this Emma be the daughter of William Amos Buck..she married Jack Ferrell Ross from Marengo Co. Martha Chambliss Buck married Wilburn Nash Redwine of Marengo Co. I know I posted this to you before..but not with this new information on Emma. Thank`s Stan Harrell [email protected]
It has been a long time since I have worked on this family. Carol pointed out in her quote from his book attached that Samuel BUCK of Crown Point only identified one wife Mary (Mary Kirby) whereas Emanuel/Enoch likely had wives Sarah Ryley, Mary Arnold (m. 17 Apr 1658) and Mary Kirby (m. bef 1667). As many of us are aware, while the Samuel Buck book has useful information, it has been found to contain quite a few errors. This is what I have in my note for Mary Arnold: Torrey lists last name of wife Mary as [Kirby] but the supplement to Torrey lists it as Arnold and also indicates Mary died before 1664; this is impossible if she is the mother of all the children listed. Harvey has Mary dying 12 Jan 1712. From further research it appears that Emanuel/Enoch married two Marys, first Mary Arnold in 1658 who died before 1664, and secondly Mary Kirby. From the records of Wethersfield, CT by S. G. Drake in 1861 is the entry Buck, Emmanuel married Mary Kirby, age 31, of Middletown, CT, April 15, 1658. However, the Wethersfield records apparently left the surname blank. Probate records of 1677 list Mary Kirby as wife of Emanuel Buck, age 32 years. That would make Mary Kirby born about 1645. This would likely make her the first child of John and Elizabeth who were about age 21 at that time. Hello, I am looking for information on a Mary E. Buck that was born in WI and Married in Blue Earth, Minn. to a Harrison Palmer. 9 May 1866. Harrison Father was Lewis J. Palmer. Rose
Emily - I don't have much on your James "Anthony" Buck b.c. 1796-1799. Assume this is Anthony in Craven in 1850, looks like age 54. He's not the James Jr. b.c. 1811, who I believe related to Thomas b.c. 1706, but the name of his son, Brinson, is of interest. I've got a Brinson, who later appears as Burton, son of James Jr. b.c. 1811. There's another Briston, who is Burton A., son of Richard 1778-1831. James Jr. also named a son Ransom and so did Richard 1778-1831. I knew there was some connection; turns out that James Jr. b.c. 1811 married the daughter (Winnefred) of Richard 1778-1831. We know the father of Richard 1778-1831 was Francis, but do not know the father of James Jr. b.c. 1811. We also know there's some kind of connection between James Jr. and Thomas b.c. 1806 and Richard 1778-1831. Don't know if or how your James Anthony might connect. Not too odd that there's an Anthony Brinson in 1840 Chocowinity Dist., Beaufort 4 houses from (Thomas) Buck and it might be him in 1830 Chocowinity, 2 houses from a Thomas Buck. All I have on Anthony Brinson is his name and house order and no particulars (wonder if he's old enough to be a grandfather?). Your James Anthony is too young to be the father of James Jr. b.c. 1811 and James Anthony's son, James was born about 1826. Richard Buck 1778-1831 didn't have a son named James or Anthony, so that's a bust. That James Anthony was a cooper and James Jr. b.c. 1811 was a cooper probably doesn't mean too much, as a lot of Bucks were coopers. The name Brinson/Burton does give me pause, popping up in 3 Buck families. It's as if there's something here but connecting the dots is neigh to impossible. Part of the problem for me is lack of Craven Co. records, as I believe my Thomas b.c. 1806 comes from Bucks who were in and out of Craven (along with another dead-end surname of mine, Patrick). I'd certainly like to see what you've got on your James Anthony, as I don't have much. One little sliver might just be the missing puzzle piece. Judy Stell
