Hi, Not to confuse things any, but per can also mean "as given by". So in my mind I read the statement as saying that the info about William Buck was given by Cornelius Harvey. I know I've encountered Pers as a first name but not Per. So I guess for me the question becomes "Is there a Per Cornelius Harvey William Buck?" Or is there a comma missing, making the statement "Per Cornelius Harvey, William Buck, age 60,..."? I thought of this because at work I see the phrase "per RN" which basically means "the nurse said" on some of the orders regarding the residents. And wondered if "Per" might mean the same type of thing here. I don't know if this helps or hinders. It did not enter my mind that ANYONE could mistake the meaning of "Per" which means "according to" or "by means of". "Per" is a preposition and does not require a comma after the phrase. In addition, almost every person on this list likely has heard of the Buck Genealogy by Cornelius Harvey published in 1889. I believe Tim was joking, at least I interpreted it that way. So when I said "Per Cornelius Harvey", I meant he was the source of the information that William BUCK came on the ship "Increase". Margaret Scheffler

Per Cornelius Harvey William Buck, age 60, and his son Roger, age 18, arrived in Boston May 1635 on the ship Increase. He and Roger went directly to Cambridge where in 1652 he was granted 20 acres out of the "Cambridge Survey" (Lot 91). He built his residence here. William died intestate January 24, 1658 and was buried in the Old Cemetery at Cambridge, Massachusetts. His son Roger, who inherited all his property, was appointed his administrator in April 1658. Roger Buck apparently had children Samuel, John, Ephraim, Mary, Ruth, Lydia and Elizabeth born between 1642 and 1657. I have that Samuel, Ephraim, Ruth and Elizabeth married. The two sons apparently left many descendants. I don't have children for the daughters. There is a published book on the Buck Family of Bucksport, ME. It was written by -- Richards, Mrs. Elizabeth S., Genealogy of the Buck Family which settled in Cambridge, afterwards Woburn, Mass. in the year 1635 (Reading, PA, Eagle Book and Job Press, 1913) Margaret Scheffler ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, May 24, 2003 10:45 AM Subject: Re: [BUCK-L] Re: James W. Hello Ms. Stetson, I'm the author of the original posting that "Kathryn" responded to. I am, too, a descendant of Abidijah Buck........from Bucksport/field Maine. Although some of his forebers moved to Va. just before the Civil War and stayed there well into the 20th century. The last Buck in my line was my Gr grandmother......who died in Lynchburg in 1958. Her son was my maternal grandfather.....Raymond Clayton. And that is all I will mention about him since it isn't very polite to speak ill of the deceased. OK....if you'd like to peruse and discuss this matter further you know where to find me. Who knows? We just might unearth some more long deceased ancestors.. Talk to you soon. Tim

My husband's maternal grandmother was a Buck. We have been to Bucksport, but not Buckfield. I would like to learn more about the "book" you spoke about relating the genealogy: "Buck ancestor came to America on the Increase in 1635, William Buck." My husband is a Stetson from Kenduskeag, ME. His father, Kenneth, was from Bangor. George Plummer Stetson married Effie Buck in 1894 in Old Town,ME and at some point they moved to Bangor. They had two children, Kennneth, and Gladys. I knew very little about Effie until yesterday when I had a wonderful e-mail from a "Buck." She knew of the family and tells me that Grammie Buck's dad was Bainbridge Buck. She also has a picture of her in 1910 in Abbott, ME. My husband says his g. was absoulutely the most wonderful woman! Part of the Buck personality, I suspect. I have many of her homemade dollies and tatted pillowcases put safely away. My husband loved her very much, but she died when he was about 10. As we have much documentation about the Stetson family, I would like to complete the Buck side of the family. If I could trace the line back to William Buck that would be fabulous because the Stetson's go back to about 1640. The first Stetson here was Coronet Robert Stetson. He owned a sawmill in Norwell, MA. We go the Stetson reunion every year there. It is just wonderful. Do the Buck's have a family reunion? I would very much appreciate anything that might be useful to me in my search. I was astounded that after posting a messge for 3 years on this board that it was answered! I enjoyed reading your "posting." MaryAnn

Thank you for e-mailing me. I have searched so long for this part of our family. I called my husband immediately. He tells me that Mabel (Aunt Mae) was definetly part of the family. Can you trace the marriage date? Effie Buck Stetson was married to: George Plummber Stetson m. Effie E. Buck on April 11, 1895 Old Town, Me. I have searched so long and in vain for all the information on Effie. No one is alive who would know. I'd like to have particulars like who the cousins are and places of birth. My husband was very close to Effie and loved her very much. We have visited Bucksport several years ago before I got interested in the history of the family. (ah, me!) I understand the Bucks settled there. I have wanted to know so much more about the Bucks! I am most interested. Please e-mail me: my personal address is [email protected] Thank you ever so much, MaryAnn
