Dear Rusty, Thank you so very much for your inquiry. I currently have in the BUCHTEL Family Heritage Database (which now contains information on 17,307 people) conflicting information regarding the daughters of Peter Buchtel, Sr., none of whom are named Mary. I have a cousin who worked on this problem a while back and we determined there was a daughter of Peter who married a John Caugh (Koch) but we got side tracked with other situations and never really resolved this problem. I have initiated an inquiry to him to see if he has ever returned to the clarification of this particular challenge. I will let you know what he says (or he may contact you directly). Resolving this would be a big plus for the advancement of the documentation project. We always enjoy studying the gaps and conflicts in data and for the most part have been fairly successful in our final conclusions, so I hope this will be one case that is satisfying to the investigators. The Pennsylvania German 1907 article entitled "The Buchtel Family" by Henry Meyer claims Peter's daughter Mary lived to be 94 years old but Mary Buchtel Koch is not in the 1870 federal census or mentioned in John Koch's 1873 will. Find- a- grave has Mary's death as 1867. Any infor would be appreciated.
