Buchtel therein. It has been quite a while since I have worked with the early Colorado branches of the Buchtel family but I seem to recall that the previous work did not result in any proof how your family group tied into (or not) with the descendants of Johannes Buchtel who immigrated to America in 1753 (there were around 12 Buchtel families who came to America in the mid-1800's on which I have some data, but none which ties these folks to the original immigrants). I will refresh my memory with what I have done previously and get back to you in a "while". If you have a lineage or other information you would like to share with me, it may help clarify some of the relationships which do exist in the 17,000 person Buchtel Family Heritage Database which i maintain.--James R. Dear Rusty, Thank you so very much for your inquiry. I currently have in the BUCHTEL Family Heritage Database (which now contains information on 17,307 people) conflicting information regarding the daughters of Peter Buchtel, Sr., none of whom are named Mary. I have a cousin who worked on this problem a while back and we determined there was a daughter of Peter who married a John Caugh (Koch) but we got side tracked with other situations and never really resolved this problem. I have initiated an inquiry to him to see if he has ever returned to the clarification of this particular challenge. I will let you know what he says (or he may contact you directly). Resolving this would be a big plus for the advancement of the documentation project. We always enjoy studying the gaps and conflicts in data and for the most part have been fairly successful in our final conclusions, so I hope this will be one case that is satisfying to the investigators. I regret that I cannot give you a definitive answer at this time. The Pennsylvania German 1907 article entitled "The Buchtel Family" by Henry Meyer claims Peter's daughter Mary lived to be 94 years old but Mary Buchtel Koch is not in the 1870 federal census or mentioned in John Koch's 1873 will. Buchtel and I maintain the BUCHTEL Family Heritage Database which contains more than 17,000 individuals connected genealogically. I know of several different pictures of Helen Barnum but there probably are some copyright hoops to jump through to use them in a future publication. I would suggest you contact Steven Fisher at the Penrose Library, University of Denver. Steven is the custodian over the archives/special collections and I am sure he can steer you to appropriate photos and advise you on the proper procedure to follow. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lVG.2ACEB/21 Message Board Post: I have a question about Michael Buchtel (son of Martin) born about 1807 and Michael Buchtel (son of Peter) born 1904. There seems to be quite a confusion about which parents go with which Michael and the facts which I have don’t clear up the matter one bit. Many books about Portland, Oregon and the Pacific Northwest state that Joseph Buchtel (b. 22 November 1830) was the son of Michael Buchtel and Mary Harvey from Stark County, Ohio. They also state that Michael was the son of Martin. Stark County marriage records indicate that Michael and Mary were married on 30 March 1828. Tombstone inscription in Stark County, Ohio have a Susanna Garl (daughter of Reuben) as a wife of Michael Buchtel and she is buried right next to Martin Buchtel and his wife Eva. Portage County, Ohio marriage records indicate that Michael and Susanna were married 20 December 1832. Here’s the rub: By 1832, Michael and Mary were already married with 2 small children so these can’t be the same Michael! Can someone which more evidence than me please explain what it is that I’m missing and what ultimately happened to the two Michaels? Thanks.

His birthdate jumps around a bit, but he's listed here in Oregon as being born November 22, 1830.. so I'd be a lot happier if he showed up as being 19 or 20 (than 21),.. but: They are found on the 1850 census at: 1850 United States Federal Census > Ohio > Stark > Bethlehem
